Condolences for Reb-

Postby Tomkat » Fri Jul 12, 2013 8:11 am

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I know how much a dog means to all of us, they really do become part of the family.

Reb and I were texting last night regarding our experiences with snakes. He has more of them than I do naturally, but he is also used to being around them. He has been bit by a copperhead before and seen and killed lots of venomous snakes- rattlers, cottonmouths, and copperheads. We don't have cottonmouths here, but we do have rattlers and copperheads.

Reb if you want to post some pics of your dog, I would love to see them. If not, that's cool.
I personally believe that our pets go to heaven. If I go there, it wont be heaven for me without Brandy.

I am praying for you and your dog.

Sorry for your loss Reb. Terrible set of circumstances there. What a story about the other dog grieving right along with you. Sometimes I think people underestimate animals.

I'm sorry to hear that to Reb. I lost my dog not to long ago. It is one thing that I do not think I will ever get used too. But it brings a smile now thinking about all the crazy things that all my dogs did and we did together back in the day. I think that is what makes us go out and get another puppy.

Again, sorry for your loss. I hate taking my dogs out this time of year because of snakes. Our K9 officers carry Benadryl pills in case they come into contact with snakes on patrol. Since most snake bites on dogs occur in the head/muzzle area, the Benadryl keeps there throat/nasal passages from completely closing up. My lab was bit on the muzzle about 4 years ago by what we believed to have been a copperhead and I immediately gave her 2 Benadryl before taking her to the emergency vet. I let the vet know that I gave them to her and he said I could have actually given her 3 or 4 because of her weight. I know you said the poison actually reached your dogs brain, but keep this in mind if you ever deal with another snake bite. As you know, they are all to common in Louisiana.

Reb I was traveling when I heard about it, I hate hearing that man. Prayers for you and your wife, in my experience the best thing is another pup.

I'll more than likely just mount it right there in the field.

Thanks guys. I plan on getting another pup when I get back from my next hitch. In the mean time, deciding if I want to try a chessie or keep with a lab.
