When my buddy was busted for shooting 3 minutes early, the ticket was based on the published sunrise time in Baltimore, which is 3 hours west of here. He went to court, and it was upheld. (although he was "only" placed on 2 years' probation, and had to pay close to $450 in fines and court costs.) I often wonder if an app like this would help, but with these thuggish asshat wardens we have here, it's best to just go with the published time if you're hunting a public area. And to know what time the game warden's watch says.

assateague wrote:Not here. The problem is that the time tables in the regs state "based off of sunrise/sunset times at Baltimore, MD". And more than a few game wardens take that literally. My buddy is only one of the few people I know who received fines for this.
And TK, not here. I'm not saying shit to a game warden, and if his feelings are hurt, so be it.

Same thing here in VA. I always use an app on my phone that gives the exact sunrise and sunset for where I am, based on GPS.
They can ticket me if they want, but it's my feeling that they can't write their own false science and then use that against me.

Yeah, my phone is a GPS as well. There's even a setting in Google maps that allow me to download maps for offline use (no cell signal).

Doesn't it say somewhere in the rules to not rely on a GPS or other electronic device to determine sunrise/sunset, but to only use the table in regulations book? I could be wrong about that, but it seems I read it somewhere in there. I usually carry a copy of the sunrise/sunset chart in my blind bag just to be safe.

It is the damnedest thing. Every year, birds flying around can see them everywhere. One shot rings out in the distance...
The skies light up with gun fire regardless of time.
