I have the same tent, with the vestibule. It's perfect for 3 guys and their gear.

It makes a great backdrop for pictures too. LOL

Here is what I'm going to shoot out of my ".06" for cow elk in Wyoming this year.

They fly at around 3200fps and are very consistent round to round for a factory load. As for 165grn or 180grn, regardless of the round you choose, shoot both and see which is best in your gun. I know people who swear by 180grn shoots the best groups and others who say 165grn is best in theirs.
It's about round placement if the heavier round groups better then thats great but, it; isn't needed. We've shot plenty of elk with .270 130grn and they are just as dead if you hit them right.
Hell, the .06 in 150 grn will get it done. My first ever gun killed elk was with a 30-30 Win model 94'. Hit it square in the shoulder and it didn't take another step.

I killed my elk with a 150 grain federal ballistic tip at 400+ (30-06)

He was looking right down the mountain at me and I held on his forehead, put her right in the boiler room, after I put the first one between his legs.

If I did it again, I would go with the 180

I'm interested in another opinion for those that wish to answer. I'm still doing some research on the best round for my 30.06 and am leaning towards a 180 grain nosler partition. I usually hunt with Winchester 150 grain silvertips (for Texas) and I have a really tight group and it drops whitetails and 250 lb wild hogs with no problem. Any recommendations for a good 30.06 round for elk. Again-thanks for all the advice.

180 gr Nosler Partitions have killed many an elk and mule deer for me. I would work my loads up to the highest velocity I could while still being accurate and not damaging the rifle. My favorite 30 cal bullet is the 180 NP.

Check the ballistic charts and compare the 168 gr with the 180 gr and decide which load to work up. I don't know what the terrain is like where you will be hunting so be sure to look at where you bullet will be with regard to it's trajectory within the ranges you expect to be shooting. I have killed elk from 10 to 250 yards.

Thanks for all the info bulldog. I just bought the Vortex 6x18x44 rifle scope and I have a 300 yard range within about 10 minutes from my house so as soon as I get it mounted and bore sighted I'll start practicing. I've never missed with that rifle and I've probably killed 10 deer and 15 or so wild hogs with it but I've never taken a 350 yard shot with steep decline either.

BTW-I plan on retiring in about 10 years and heading up to Montana. Colorado has gotten too liberal for me and one of my old Marine buddies lives in Kalispel and loves it. My passions in life are hunting (spot and stalk big game) and wingshooting ducks and quail. I now currently live in deep South Texas about 10 miles from Mexico and the hunting is outstanding but its freaking hot. Plus we are getting over run by Californians and the kite surfers are chasing all the ducks into Mexico.
