You may be confused. The only government paid job I have ever had is military. I know people who left my career field to be employed doing the same work through Raytheon and TI. Neither one of them are federal or state, or any government agency employed. I can't see how the fact that they are paid by the government for their products, makes them a government employer. Uni1st is paid by the Air Force to clean door mats and replace mop heads for our shop. Are they government employer too?

Well, technically I said "jobs", not "companies" in the first place. But yes- if you are a government contractor, it is a government job. Tax dollars pay your salary=government job.

Not all government money comes from taxation.

I pissed off a bunch of college kids and a professor over the workers getting paid. Somehow the shutdown came up and one of the kids spouted off how it was such a good thing that the workers were getting paid for doing nothing, and I went off on how when companies back home shut down (like Caterpillar and TI) the workers don't get paid during the shutdown and how that was any different than the government. I think the professor kinda agreed with me, but brought up agricultural research and how scientists that are working with animals still have to go to work to feed the animals.

For the ones that are working, I have no problem with it. Unfortunately, the bill covers them ALL, even the "non-essentials" who sat on their asses. I hope this fucker lasts until 2036.

I agreed with his argument, but payment to the "office staff", so to speak, drives me up the wall.

More pandering by those occupying the wealthiest zip codes.
Last year as Sandy approached, the Fat One decreed NJ closed. A state of emergency existed and vehicular traffic banned. Fair enough to keep public safe (tho I should be able to make my own choice , and bear the consequences) but my business was shut down for three days. During this time, blowhard in chief promised to pay state workers back pay. So I had not only a loss of income, but I had to work extra to pay, not extra taxes, but rather for work not done. Cannot believe more people are not outraged at paying for not having work done. Yes if you are govt worker it sucks, but every employee bears some risk of their employer.
