If it weren't for wood ducks, I would have quit duck hunting years ago.

If I kill 3 wood ducks a year it's a lot. Only got 1 this year.

Me too. I'd take 3 woodies and 3 teal every day of the season. Just doesn't happen where I hunt on the open water.

Titz and I have a bad day if we don't limit on woodies. For the first month of the season that is.

I saw good numbers woodies threw out the season at one particular refuge. Only killed maybe 10 of them. They fly the same path every morning..... about 15 minutes before legal shoot time. Only had a few chances after the suns come up at them. If we had some decent weather. Fog especially. You could do some damage.

Around here we usually shoot almost exclusively woodies, I hunted open water and shot divers and a few teal all season. One woodie was taken out of all my hunts this year and it was not even me who shot it.

Why? They are some good eating and they shoot just the same.

This might sound dumb, but if there get to be enough woodies, will they run the other ducks off because of the competition for food?

I don't think so. I have a couple spots where there literally over 100 woodies in there and close to double-triple that amount of other ducks, mainly gadwalls with a few other species mixed in. And to clarify, these aren't 2 of the spots that I allegedly bait.
