Sorry olly!!!!

This morning I was supposed to leave for CO. But I postponed it so I could search for the deer. I took the dog and searched for 4-5 hours to no avail. It rained the night before so all of the blood had washed away so I basically had no trail to work with. I feel awful I couldn't find it. But I eventfully called it off because I have to be in CO tomorrow and couldn't delay leaving anymore. There wasn't any sign of the deer. I hope she either pulls through or isn't suffering right now. There is a group of bow hunters heading out tomorrow and all this week I asked to look for her and they said they would.

Beef ill be honest I'm not throwing away the doe tag. Between all the zones, landowner and pest doe tags. I literally have an unlimited number of 10 dollar doe tags. Throwing it away will accomplish nothing. I told the guys who are looking for her they can tag her out with my tag if they find her.

You can judge me all you want but I did all I could and that's enough for my conscience. I'm not going to be a symbolic doe martyr. When in reality it doesn't mean anything being that its a 10 dollar unlimited tag.

Doc you did the right thing and I wouldn't feel bad in the least. And I wouldn't toss the tag either. Sometimes in hunting you lose game, I lost a duck in Sunday. We looked for it for a good while but I'm not losing any sleep over it because I did the best I could in finding it.

I would have stayed out longer and gone again tomorrow, but I physically have to be in CO tomorrow for an interview. I had planned on waking up early today and hitting the road so I could fish tonight. I gladly sacrificed my free time in CO fishing to look.

you wouldn't believe how many deer surive being shot. just in the small area i hunt, every season, 20-30 deer are killed that have wounds from being shot before.

Throwing a tag away does nothing anyways, keep it and get yourself another, and ignore Mornin White Stain. Got him ignored but tapatalk seems to show his quotes.
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.

What would you know about being a man?

I know that going back into woods after wounding a deer for another is pure ***** and disrespect to the game im hunting.

No way. I wound them on purpose, hoping they will spread the word to stay away from my beans and corn. Then when the others come sniffing around, I kill them. They deserve no respect- they are overpopulated carriers of disease, strife, and discord. You may worship them if you want- I choose to make them bleed.

Apparently, you're some sort of Nostradamus, "knowing" if a deer is dead or not. Perhaps you'd show me the part where you "know" a deer is dead, and are required to tag it. Or possibly, you're just talking out of your butt. I like to shoot 2 or 3, then I have 2 or 3 blood trails to follow. At least one of them will take me to a deer.

Doc - chin up. It sucks, but it happens. And if you do this long enough, it will happen again. Control what you can, and accept that things will not always go as planned.

I honestly wish I could care like you do...but I'm with 'Teague.
Vermin to be terminated with extreme prejudice. I've never purposely wounded one, but I've subscribed to the "nits make lice" ROE and whacked entire family units, while joking that the spots give well defined aiming points.

I was actually kidding about the "on purpose" part, and offer up thanks when I get the animal. But I will kill every one I see if possible, and not feel a bit bad about it. Early season bow is the best (or with crop damage tags), because you can shoot mama while the young'uns are still with her, then you can shoot them too, because they'll walk up to mama instead of leaving. With a bow, you can get grandma, too.

You sound like a friend of mine lol. The land owner where he hunts put a limit on size he can shoot though. 6 pointers and does is all he can shoot. If he shoots any thing smaller than that he had to pay the guy $50 for every deer that is under the size limit.

That is just stupid, misguided thinking. QDM practices and point restrictions do nothing aside from generate revenue. There's way too many does around, so until I see some place where an antler point restriction is coupled with a "no shooting does" policy, I call BS.

Ha, shoot a doe out here and you are most likely going to be in trouble. The general unit has to be a fork or better on one side before you can kill it. Just goes to show how different the population numbers are from here to there.

He's the only person with the point limit on the land though.

And yet the population is the population. Same with black ducks. If there are 200 million whitetails in America, it really shouldn't matter if you only have 12 deers in Oregon, when it comes to management principles. If all of them in Oregon died, it wouldn't matter a damn to the species as a whole, but nobody's buy a deer tag in OR. Which leads me back to my premise- it's always about the money, not the animal.

I wish they would transplant some of those "problem" whitetails out here.

Wonder why they don't? I'm positive with a tranquilizer gun and an 18-wheeler, my buddies and I could have about 150 out to you within a week. It's just dumb. We've had unlimited does for I don't know how long, and even before that the limit was 10 does with each weapon, for a total of 30, so obviously they're a problem.

I dont know why either. Dont know if they think the environment wont support them, or maybe they dont want them to flourish and become the problem that you guys have. Maybe I should lease up a large property with a high fence, have you bring a couple truck loads of them out and start a hunting preserve. The city slickers would pay a small fortune to shoot a whitetail with a halfway decent rack.
