Time to change locations

Well a cold front moved in last night which usually means outstanding hunting for us here down in SoTex. I woke up at 6am and went out on the back porch to see where they were flying and was aghast when I heard someone shooting from my spot. I know its not really mine but I've never seen anybody else hunt where I go. I always find the hunting is better in the bay during the afternoon so I went to my go to spot only to find the birds flying really high or flying just out of decoy range. We managed to bag a few but I can tell its time to change locations and move on to less pressured water.

Question-I had buddy bring his yellow lab which is almost white in color. To me it was standing out like a neon sign and the birds were definitely flaring today. Not sure if it was because they've been getting shot at or if they saw a white dog on the shore. What do ya'll think? I actually went back to the jeep and got some camo netting and told him to drape it over the dog. I've always hunted over chocolates or blacks.

We ended the day with a pair of redheads and sprigs and one widgeon. We could have done a lot better but my buddies shooting skills were less than stellar today plus the birds were flying at the edge or just out of shotgun range. Hope everyone had a great Saturday.

I'm with ya on the white dog thing. I don't like hunting with light colored yellows either. And for that, I'll probably never own a yellow. It's very green and overcast where I hunt. Black or brown hides much easier

My lab is hard to hide, I didn't really think about that when I got him. I want a black lab next.

I'm going with a liver colored German Shorthair. Was duck hunting today and busted a covey of quail. It was really cool.

It's crossed my mind a few times. Besides I figured while I was dyeing the dog we could dye Jehler Jr's hair too.

I asked why his dog had a white stripe from head to tail on its back, and he answered "I spray painted him to look like a skunk so nobody would mistake him for a bear and shoot him". So I asked him if he thought anybody would shoot a 60 pound skunk.

I have a yellow and never have any problems. Even sitting next to my layout blind when hunting in winter wheat he doesnt flare birds. It was something I was concerned about at first as Ive typically had goldens or chesapeakes, but it hasnt been a problem.

Come to NY. WHile where I live is city slicker free, a couple hours down south and all of the once a year NYC hunters go deer hunting AT THE SAME TIME. They shoot at anything that moves, and that is not a lie in the least bit. My buddy guides for a local hunt club/guide service. Typical clients are Habeebs from NYC who buy a 2000 dollar shotgun for their first goose hunt ever. He's told me stories about accidental fires while IN the layout blind as geese were locking in, shooting from the hip, and a lot of decoy blasting. After all of that, I can believe someone wanting to paint a stripe on their dog to keep it from being shot.
