Hunting partner was otherwise engaged today so I took his 21 year old son hunting. We bumped a mess of geese sneaking into the spot, set our decoys and settled down to wait. About 20 minutes after legal shooting time Garrett whispered to me that we had 8 geese swimming toward our decoys. I was using a swimming duck decoy to put some motion in the duck decoys. Those geese spotted that thing swimming around and made a hard right turn and swam right toward us. At 30 yards we stood up, flushed them and took 3 out of the flock. For the first time in 2 years I was right on. Both the birds I killed weighed about 12 pounds. One took 4 pellets in the head and the other took about 6 or 7 in the neck. Banner day for me.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
