Cheap/good meal ideas?

Aside from fish or game, my starving college student favorite was pot pies stretched with broken up toast.

Sausage and potatoe stew over rice, about 12 bucks to make a big pot and can eat for 4 days on it. Chili dogs is about 5 bucks for dogs, buns, and can of chili if you buy the dollar dogs and buns to make 8. Mix ramen noodles in for a meal here and there , and sandwiches and campel soup is good and pretty cheap too

knew you guys would come through. All those were good, headed to the store, Ill let you know what I get. I downed an elk this year with my friend so at least I have that going for me.

Spaghetti made with the cheapest ground beef or even better ground venison you took yourself is a great cheap meal that I make all the time.

If you want to really eat great and cheap I would learn to love Asian foods. If you live near a bigger city and they have a decent Asian food market you can but noodles by the pound for pennis on the dollar of big box stores.

Also rooster sauce makes everything cheap automatically better.

Karen's son is in his senior year. I have sent him several of my recipes that are inexpensive to make. If there is a parent, family member or friend who makes food you like, ask them for recipes. You may find that for $10 you can make something that will feed you for 3-4 days

If you have room in the Frig and a stove, there is easy bachelor goulash

1 pound to pound and a half f ground meat
2 boxes macaroni and cheese
salsa for flavoring
cheddar cheese
Oregano if you want it to taste like regular goulash at all.

Soups are easy and cheap. Chicken thighs and egg noodles or mixed veggies and diced potatoes. Save gallon containers and freeze large batches in smaller containers for the microwave.

Spaghetti was a favorites for me. I made three pounds at a time. I had a bunch of plates I got at a flee market and filled hem all up and covered with plastic wrap and stacked them in the chest freezer like cord wood.

There is lots of ideas for cheap, homemade TV dinners.

Chicken quarters are typically around $5 for a 10 lb bag @ Wally World (the only meat I will buy from there other than bacon or sausage), or local store sales. So many ways to cook it.....grilled, baked, bbq'd, de-boned and stuffed, chicken pot pies, chicken and rice, etc........ a big jar of Peanut butter and a loaf of bread can stretch a dollar as well

Frozen pizzas are a staple for me.

Seriously though I get chicken and eggs free so I don't have to worry about meat.

Fried spam is amazing and I don't care what anyone says. I would eat it even if I was a millionaire.

Olly hit it on the head when he said "pasta".
You can save some cash by making your own sauce.
Mix a can of tomatoes with a little tomato paste to thicken it up.
Add some Italian basil, salt and a little pepper and it will taste super good.

To take it to the next level learn how to bake your own bread. (it is easy)

Once you master making this simple meal, invite a girl over, feed her pasta and home-made bread,some cheap wine, then eff her brains out.

Good to see you back around. The hillbilly version, red beans and corn bread, kept us going when Dad took a fit to live on a small town minister's salary. Still love it.

Found an Atlas pasta machine with an extra attachment for making linguine.
For Christmas am adding on the ravioli attachment.
Can't wait to make home made ravioli.
The machine cranks out the ravioli in little sheets.
