Is there a season for kite surfers?

Postby Laguna Madre » Sat Dec 08, 2012 9:49 pm

I did some scouting on Monday and the bay by my house was chock full of redheads and pintails. I had to go to Austin on Tuesday for Sig Armorer recertification and got back Friday. I was excited about the season opening back up on Saturday so I decided to do some scouting and the bay was almost completely empty of ducks. I was completely puzzled because they were like mosquitoes when I left town. I then saw a kite surfer shredding my cove going back and forth and back and forth all over the feeding grounds. Then another kite surfer showed up and started doing the same thing. I then drove around the point and found an additional 9 kite surfers just tearing it up. I'm totally bummed because other than vandalizing their cars there is nothing I can do about it because they don't come close enough to my decoys with the new steel shot. The fall fishing and the duck hunting in my cove is usually really good so it looks like I'm going to have to find a more peaceful place to hunt for the rest of the season.

I did manage to bag a few widgeons on my back lake marsh pond. We had quite a few flights come in but they were landing just out of decoy range. I had to blaze out early due to a sick kid but my buddies said they managed another 4 before they called it a day. All in all it was a fun hunt. Hope everybody had a great weekend.

Get you some hevi shot and a tight choke. That should reach out and tickle your kite surfers.

There are hunter harassment laws but no kite boarder harassment laws....as far as I know?

Don't use steel, get a flare gun. I bet those kites would go up real fast if you hit one.

Good point jehler. Maybe I need to start throwing my big topwater plugs and "accidentally" hook one of the kites.

Those fuckers run me out when we're clamming fairly regular. If I ever got hit by one (and survived), I would probably try and beat them to death with a two pound chowder clam, when I regained consciousness.
