Crawfish Anyone?

Postby Deltaman » Mon Mar 17, 2025 8:35 am

We boiled our first sack of the season, and were glad to see that the prices are much more reasonable this year compared to last. I usually wait until after Easter, when the prices drop, but my bride was not taking "let's wait" for an answer  Paid $3.57 lb on a sack, which while high $ in terms of pricing, they were delicious and worth every penny.......as I sit here typing this, munching on some crawfish cornbread we made with some of the leftovers. Anybody else been boiling any?

Haven’t had any yet but am slated to go to a boil April 5th. I miss being able to stop in at R&r’s whenever it struck my fancy! Nice to hear of prices coming back to earth. Last couple years have been outrageous early.

So you're the bastages supporting the crawfish industry playing such a big role in destroying our waterfowling.

(I quit buyin' 'em, but it didn't stem the tide.)

Sorry Rick, I reckon so, can't help myself :o
They fill a seasonal void while crabs and shrimp are tougher to come by this time of year.

Have to admit they fill a mighty important void for us, too: safe off-season exercise and training water, now that the gators have claimed most all else in our region. And will admit we're still supporting the crawfish industry by harassing birds competing with our farmer friends for their crop:

Easy to see the big white buggers aren't nearly so easy to run off as the bec croix that got up and out at his approach. Not their first day of school.

Still never quite sure his ADHD isn't gonna kick in and send him off to points nowhere near a mark, but keeping them interesting seems the best insurance. And it sure beats the days when a black bird passing meant I'd have to get wet to rescue a $25 bumper.
