Mount idea

Postby ManlyMan » Wed Dec 26, 2012 12:54 am

Ok Guys. What about this idea. Ive never seen a mount like this so want to get peoples input on it. (Or why it doesn't work since surely I'm not the first person to think of the idea.) I have that awesome sunrise picture from LA from the day I shot one of my Cans. What if I had the taxi incorporate a wooden picture frame for a big 24x36 size print of that sunrise behind it. Then have the base of the mount coming out of the bottom of the picture frame with the reeds and two ducks mounted flying from that base. I did a very, very quick mockup in photoshop. So you have to use your imagination, but what do you think? I think it would be really neat and something pretty different, but there are those in the text thread that are doubters.

Again, the base would be coming out perpendicular to the bottom of the frame and i think would be a pretty cool 3D mount

I think it would look great doc. Just pick a good taxi and you'll be happy with the end results.

It just hurts my feeling that it took you so long to share with us bastards. Ha ha

I think that's an awesome idea, I've seen something similar before on the Internet but don't remember where.

Make sure the photo is good enough quality that when its made that large it's not grainy.

Good idea!

I think it's a great idea. Although I think Bulldog's idea has merit as well.

I was really looking for something to tie it all together. Maybe mini gag balls for the ducks?

I think I'm gonna go with Birdman studios. Really like his work and after PMing him on the site that shall not be named and talking to him on the phone he is very confidence inspiring.

Yeah I've looked and can't find anything. I just want to make sure it doesn't end up looking stupid and that's why there aren't many of them out there. I sent Birdman studios an email outlining the ideal. Basicslly asking if he could do it and why there arent many/any out there. but with the holidays he hasn't responded yet. Sent it on Christmas Eve day.

Good point. I shot it with a pretty high megapixel camera I've blown up poster prints with so I think I should be good in that department.

Thanks. That picture was taken looking out the side of the blind in LA. Shot both of my cans from that blind and actually shot the hen looking into that sun that day. Having her mounted like that almost perfectly recreates the shot I had on her.

Sure, ill pay for the print and you pick up the guide tab so I can come this weekend

I'd try and find a slick way to tie the picture and the mount together. Versus just a picture behind a mount

That would look pretty good I think. Disregard my previous post, the grammar was horrible.

holy hell, Doc!? that was 7 posts back to back. gotta be a record.

as for the mount, could you do a corner thing?? so that picture would be on two sides of the flying ducks to kinda make it a little bit more 3D'er?? does that make any sense?

Makes sense to me and that would be awesome.

What if you bowed the picture back, so you don't see a "corner" in it as much but you still get a wrap around effect?

It's fun coming up with ideas for other people's money
