I wasn't calling you a douche.

Police today are a touchy subject with me, before my time back in the good old days used to be you could trust every cop you met. They were men like Red, who worked a beat to help people. Respectable men. Now most police I've run into are cops for the sake of being a cop and you need 3 lawyers and a running video camera just to walk past them.[/quote]
I'm blushing Olly. Stop it

I don't wanna make it seem like I believe all police are on a power trip. That's not the case, I know there are good guys out there doing good work. However in my 26 years of living more than not my run ins with police have been less than desirable even when being a law abiding citizen. That's why I said it's a touchy subject for me, I want so hard to have tons of respect for all the police in this country, just isn't the case.

It's just like everything else in life a few ruin it for the many. I consider myself a realist and the "power" a cop has is a bunch of crap. Our Hands are tied more than anyone can imagine. Some were worried the "power" would go to my head but I don't think anyone will tell you it has. I think me and Aaron are on the same page when it comes to our philosophy on work. Some cops are dicks. Some are not. The hard part comes when you see the ugliness of human nature. The things no one should have to see and all you get from the public is crap because your a cop. I just look at it like this, the people that want to judge me based on how I earn my living will most likely never have to see the look on a mothers face after I just told her her son or daughter is dead. They will never have to see that son or daughter blown up all over a country road somewhere because they were out partying and decided to drive. Most likely no one will ever try to kill you just because your doing your job.

If I can save one normal everyday citizen from knowing what any of that is like I've done my job. Even if that citizen hates me because of what I do.

I totally agree, boot. it pisses me off when people talk shit about cops just because they are cops. MOST of the cops i have met have started off as dicks. when they realize that i show them respect they usually loosten up and turn out to be pretty good guys. i blame the initial dickness on the previously stated people.

i guess why i ask is just because i really think i would enjoy being a cop. i just want to know how it really is, like when you arent dealing with people or giving DARE lectures or the other "active" stuff you boys do. as well as making a decent living doing it (dont plan on getting rich) whilst being securely employed.

Your Community is lucky to have a guy like you and Reds is too. All you can do is keep on doing a hard job for a good reason and hope you change the modern persona of police in this country.

I'd hunt with you guys any day.

you can tell him the truth red. between series of traffic stops (4 stops is standard, 3 hotties with big tits then 1 guy who gets ticketed for 4 things to cover the costs of pulling over the broads) cops spend there time having little competitions, like who can cuff and drag a homeless guy the farthest in 30 seconds or how far can I make that gang banger run before his pants fall down. it really is an easy job.

I have said this before and will say it again. the reason we have so many dumbass cops is because we don't pay cops enough. I see no reason that a cops salary shouldnt be between 75k to 6 figures depending on where he is at. if cops were paid that well you would have more quality people like red and that other california guy who seems to be alright i guess :P willing to join the force for the right reasons, enough that it would not be difficult to sort out the ones whos ego's are bigger than their IQ.

But then you'd have people just doing it for the money. There would have to be serious competition to keep good cops at that pay

I agree with you in the paying cops more although I think it would inspire the wrong people to do the job and let's tell you it's not a job any ol boy (or girl) can do.

Hell, you don't have to be PD to do that!
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.
