Laptop Computer

Postby Willie » Wed Jul 31, 2013 10:11 am

In the market for a laptop for the family. We don't need anything extraordinary, just something to replace the 9 year old Dell desktop. My kindergartner will use it for school work; we'll put pictures on it; I may put my handheld GPS software on it/store waypoints, etc; surf the web, etc.

I'm not looking to break the bank, but don't want a piece of crap either. I've been looking at Best Buy and HH Gregg. I know there are some computer guys on here that know 100x more about them than I ever will, so I need some help and suggestions about what to look at.

Thank you for any insight.

I'm gonna guess your best advise will come from Flintie or MT. Everyone else is fulla shit

My advice would be NOT to get anything made by HP. They suck.

Flint for computers? Redbeard you need to re-read your biographies. He'll tell you himself that he doesn't know shit about computers.

These are jokes, Olly. Red's got a bagful.

(For the record, I think it's safe to say that Montana doesn't know shit about computers, either  )

Willie, stick with

Windows 7 and not Windows 8

Dell or Acer

Intel i5 or better processor, don't really get caught up in how many cores it has.

At least 2 gigs of RAM but the more the better

And pick one with he largest hard drive you can find.

Good luck, I know buying a computer can be weary for some. If you find a model you like post a link to it and I'll look over the specs for you.

For fear of jinxing myself, I have an Acer for work, and really like it. My wife has a Toshiba and likes it, but it seems to be a piece of shit.

Ha, I sped right past that joke. I didn't know Red knew enough about Flint to know he's not a computer guy. Way funnier now.

Red would know which laptop gives him the longest hardest drive. Possibly his favorite female trainee. Whatsername?

Also looked at tiger direct website. They seem to have more options and a few with windows 7.

I gotta say, I don't know shit about computers, RAM, intel processor, or computer language in general, so please go easy on me. Not saying I'm vulnerable and weak, but pretty much.

I'm on a loner laptop now that's reminding me how much I miss my desktop. Hate trying to type on this leper without touching something that screws it up. Being over the notion of buying another laptop is the silver lining to losing the desktop.

Why the fuck do I need to know anything about a computer? They're archaic I can pay my bills, surf the web, and change the channels on my tv with my iPad. Laptop dont do that. I just use the damn thing for a coaster for my beer.

Only thing to know abt illegal labor now is you better pay em cash under the table and if you can't do that then you're screwed bc e-verify is 100% efficient at weeding them out.
