What he's got will give a critter over a foot of pull, which is too much. I only keep one link between trap swivel and center swivel, and one link between center and stake swivel. Makes them easier to set, too, because there's not a ton of chain in the way under the trap.

Good job TrapperDev.
sws002 wrote:I would think that would depend largely on what you are using as a staking system. If I were using a single rebar stake, I would think a longer chain wouldn't necessarily be a bad a bad idea as it applies all the force laterally to the stake instead of being able to pull straight up and pump the stake. I've always used Pogo style anchors with about a foot of chain, seems to do the job just fine.

You like the pogo anchors? I've avoided them, simply because I don't like having to carry another tool in the bag for driving them. Think I might try some berkeley anchors this year, though, since I can drive them with a regular rebar stake. Gonna set more traps than ever, and don't want to have to tote around 40 stakes on the first couple days. You ever use them before?

Can't remember where I read that a while back, but it still cracks me the hell up.
