assateague wrote:Or you could measure the rough opening you have (you can do this just by pulling the trim on the inside), and go order done from the lumber yard. Pop out the old, place and square the new, shim the sides and screw through into the jacks, no clips needed. You will have to trim out and bend some metal on the outside. That's what we always did for replacements. It's not nearly as painful as it sounds.

assateague wrote:No, outside. The gap gets closed, usually with 1x, and then you bend metal to cap it. Have used Azek before, but metal looks nicer, IMO.

RonE wrote:Measure the openings for the windows you are replacing and order vinyl dual pane windows and screw and glue them in. Remove the old windows with a Sawsall. My brother in law replaced my mothers windows that way and they look great and keep the heating and cooling bill lower by about 25%.
Look into vinyl replacement windows I think you will be happy with how easy they are. You can get sliding or hung windows and in various colors too.
Just google "vinyl replacement windows".

assateague wrote:No. The window sill is the thing you set your beer on.
But it does look like you'll be buying a lot of primed 1x and a table saw to trim out your new windows.
