While I haven't seen it happen with a Paslode, it happens on a pneumatic gun usually when the cord gets caught.

When you're nailing a wall together, it's laying down flat. The studs are layed on the top plate, which is stood on edge. Then you work down the wall, grabbing a stud with one hand, turning it edge up, setting it on layout, and then shooting through the top plate into the top of the stud. It's called a tweaker, it's for holding the stud when building the wall, you put it on the stud and can pick up and or twist to align it without having your hand on the wood, great leverage
