Those mud motors have a purpose and running in the woods is not it.
If you want to try...by all means do. Its fun to watch.
I started watching that video and was wondering to myself "Now, how in the fuck does he do that in the dark?", then I noticed some of your markers. It seems like you're almost running in circles to get out there.

Yes, it does seem like I was going in circles...that particular boat lane was laid out by following a snake.
I've never went to the end of that lane because it just goes and goes and goes. It's a scary boat ride in the dark.
The video was a pretty good way of showing that it's trickier then hell finding your way around at night. Throw in a little fog and it gets really bad. Plus people are racing. That video was made in January when the leaves were long gone. November is completely different.
That one hairpin curve would stop a longtail in it's tracks and a surface drive would have to practically stop to turn.
I had to slow down several times as you could see.
Want to see some log jumping? Not sure you can just putt-putt over a log with a surface drive. My engine is always on "tilt" so if I need to scoot over a log I can just ease over and let the motor pop up as it goes over the log.
Using a smaller engine is smart. Why? Less power means less chance to break stuff. Imagine trying to run a 18' or 20' boat with a 90-horse engine thru there. PPL do it but not very well.

It is lavender, not purple. And my eyebrows are said in certain female circles to be devastatingly handsome.
