Even though I only got one, there is something special when they follow the scipt laid out in your head when you set out the
decoys.
I mostly hunt at a club in the suburbs that is an old strip mine. It's not your classic goose field. There is a wall of trees to the east at about 80 yards and to the south in front at about 150 yards. It's a field we cleared. It has a dirt road running through it and pvc pipes to keep morons from tearing it up when it is wet. Behind the blind is a bunch of brush and few trees. All this stuff impacts the goose behavior. They like to swing in over that water you can see on a south wind today which keeps them at the edge of range. Most come from the south.
So I needed to get the birds to swing around behind the blind, they'd be high going over the trees behind me, swing them around and get them to come in over that water, and then drop down and hook around in front of the blind to put them right where I want them.
That one goose followed the script perfectly. I even did my part and dropped him with one shot right in front of the blind. Which wasn't hard since he was only about 20 yards away, precisely where I had planned to shoot him when I set the decoys
