Just got in my stand. Busted a button buck feeding when I walked up. Maybe that's a good sign for today.

You should have been on the stand an hour ago.

It's your day, brother! Even though family's more often than not a pain in the ass, it does suck a little on holidays when they're not around. Relax and enjoy the day- you can hang out with my family in spirit!

Stupid no doe during rifle season rule. Just had the biggest doe on or off my cameras I've seen all year come in followed by a smaller doe and a small button buck. The buck wasn't anywhere near big enough to shoot.

Just made a shot at a small 4 point it looked like it connected. The deer jumped up and ran a little ways but I think I heard him go down. My hearts racing a million miles an hour! Gonna sit for a bit then go check out the scene.

There is you a picture JGUN that was his girlfriend he followed her right in. Oh man I'm shaking haha. He was a bigger deer but had forked spikes that were pretty tall, I debated with myself if I was gonna poke at him but decided not to pass up a good sized deer in front of me based on antler.

Shooting them with a bow it's one thing to wait. A rifle you can go almost immediately.

I'm standing over where he was looking for blood and I see some white hair but that's it.

You guys are killing me, lol. Slowly walk the direction he went taking one step looking up, then looking down for blood. Continue till you find something

No blood to be found.... I walked in the direction he went for a while taking it slow and saw nothing. I'm back in my stand, not going to push him if it was a bad shot... I'm not going to rule that out right now either.

Rifle kills with shock, you aren't going to hurt anything by going right after him although white hair is not usually a good sign. They don't bleed much if you hit em higher in the boiler room, it all goes into the body cavity.

Where exactly did you aim, how far of a shot was it, did you have a stable rest, and how exactly did he react?

My first forken horn was out of Mackinac county. It was a 3.5 year old deer. Some tough feed and bad genetics in that general area I think.

He was broad side and I aimed right behind the shoulder and no there was not a rest and it was about a 90-100 yard shot. When I shot he jumped and ran into the cover in front of him. I'm sitting on a stump right now taking a break been doing a search pattern getting bigger and bigger. I'm not so sure I even hit the damn thing.

Not going to try and play manly man, I was nervous and could have easily shot low and totally missed him.

If he jumped and kicked his back legs he's dead.

That's a pretty good poke without a rest! I'm with Jgun, if the back legs came up over the head he's dead no question. If he was hunched front shoulders lower than back legs as he ran off he's also probably down. Keep an eye out for blood waist high to breast high. To be honest, I never seem to find much blood, sometimes even with snow. I always seem to have the body cavity fill up and they don't bleed until they're going down. It's not what a lot of people would do, but I would go to where you heard him stumbling around, he could be right there. Look for the white tail, they suck to find without snow but the tail/underside should stick out.

Well shit is all I can say. I've spent the last 2.5 hours looking for this deer. I'm gonna head back to my stand taking the same amount of time looking for it but I don't know what else to do. Pretty sick with myself right now..... Reminds me of the first time I lost a duck while hunting.

If I don't have a rest and it's a decent shot, I always go for the neck. If it hits, its down dead, otherwise its a clean miss. I usually don't like taking questionable shots, but when the last week of the season comes and the freezer is empty, I get antsy in my pantsy.
