I've thought a lot about this, and I've determined that reubens aren't supposed to have 1000 island.

My guess is there was a group of people who didn't like reubens, and had no freinds because of it, so they added 1000 island to cover up all of the flavor of the meat, cheese and kraut, and for some stupid reason it became convention.

What brought this up is the wife making a grocery list and suggesting sloppy joes. I told her hell no. I hated it when my mom made sloppy joes when I was growing up. My dad and brother and sister love them and I had to pretend to like them bc I didn't want to hurt my moms feelings.

I don't think military guys are allowed to judge what others eat. I eat anything and everything just about after eating MREs

MRE's are delicious.

I've been out of the Army for over 25 years and I still eat MREs.
I prefer the old "C"rats but, if you can find them, they'd be scary old and probably bulged at both ends of the can.
I'm only on page 1 of this thread so, I should be to page 6 sometime tomorrow.
Oh, to the original subject, yep sloopy joes, anything else would be unAmerican and possibly uncivilized.

At my highschool they had actual mentally retarded people make the food. it was terrible. You had to cover everything in ranch to be able to eat it. Seriously. Olly can back me up on this bc he went there too.

When I was a kid, you could tell when someone grew up with a mom that couldn't cook. The first thing they do when they sit down to eat is grab the ketchup or ask where it is, no matter what is at the table. They do it without ever even trying the food first.
A friend of mine came over for dinner. My Mother had cooked a roast of some kind. First thing he does is ask for ketchup. My Mother says "try it first please, you might like it". You could see the terror in Billy's eyes as he "obeyed" my Mother's request. Probably the first time since his infancy he ate without ketchup. As we were growing up, he would always ask me to see if he could eat dinner with us when ever he came over.
Another indicator that someone's ma can't cook, when you go to their house and there are 2 or more bottles of ketchup on the table and people grab it before they are finished dishing up their plate.

I will say this. The chow hall at basic and the chow hall in the sand box were the best damn places I've ever eaten when it comes to military food. It was seriously like a 4 star restruant at both. For having such a huge population, Ft. Drum's facility is garbage.

I have no idea what boot camp food tasted like. We had like 5 minutes to eat and were only allowed to look at the plate or straight ahead, no talking. We didn't waste timing chewing or tasting.

I like not having the screaming shits, although I do have an iron stomach. I have tried a couple places but here everything is higher than a giraffes pussy. We have decent food dont get me wrong, PAE is who is over it now but they got out bid by KBR who does all the meals and shit in Afghan and Iraq. One day we will have decent food here but until then I will keep bitching about it.

Bitching is the only way.

The saying when I was in the Army was "a bitchin' soldier is a happy soldier". We had some happy ass mother fuckers in our unit.
