I had a group of Illinois State Troopers lecture me on "how to not get your ass kicked by the police".
Happened at a goose club.
They dont want to mess with 4mph over but 5 n up is starting to get into risky territory...in general.
I listened and have not got any asskickings for a while.

Most American's don't know how to handle speed at all. I personally would like to see the speed limit, especially outside of major cities on the interstate opened up to 80 or 85 mph. We have some of the least congested interstates in the world and yet we have speed limits ranging from 65 to 75 mph. I really dislike that I have to drive 75 mph give or take when I'm out on a interstate with hardly no one around me, espc in western KS or parts of MO.

For me speeding isn't cause I'm running late, I just like to get where I'm going sooner rather than later whether it's 1 hour or 10 hours away. Usually try to keep it between 8 to 9 mph over the posted speed limit depending traffic or just go with the flow. Not sure if you can count the speeding tickets I've had using your fingers and toes. I have a lead foot, but have really focused on slowing it down in recent years.

And, for the record, they did not mandate 55mph for safety, they mandated it for gas savings during the "fake" gas crunch of the 70s. As for the safety aspect, all the freeways we have that were built in or before the 70s were designed for speeds of 70-90mph. I remember when I was a kid not only were the interstate freeways 70-90 but, the state highways here in Oregon were also. Now some assholes comes along and starts trying to convince all the kids, that weren't born yet, the reason was for safety....NOT!
