Honestly Boot, my biggest problem with 870s are their inability to withstand or endure the salt chuck hunting. They are the biggest rust buckets made. Even if you disassemble and oil every day, they just don't turn water the same as almost any other gun.

I could see that being a problem, especially the newer 870's. but I don't hunt salt so for me they are fine. Got my first 870 when I was 11 years old and it worked flawless with minimal upkeep until I was 27. It still works flawless and I can't argue with that. I also have a 20 gauge 870 I shoot ducks with and it's flawless. I'm just giving my opinion on what has worked for me. I know fancier guns are out there but I think 870's deserve some respect for what they are.

Both my kids started on 870s and, they both still have them. They just don't hold a finish.
What the fuck do you care what I think, I shoot a Nova.
I think the real difference whether someone likes 870, Nova, or whatever, is how it fits your hands. Novas don't do well in little hands, or any of the Benellis for that matter. They're just designed with larger or thicker forearms etc. Probably why cop shops use 870s. That and the fact that when 870 went military and LE they were the only good "cheap" option. I mean as a LEO, would you rather shoot and have your life rely on Mossberg. The obvious answer, FUCK NO!

   you hit the nail on the head on that one.

I'm 5'7'' so the grips on the nova are exactly why I don't like them. Small hands and I smell like cabbage.

I bought my kid a 20 gauge 870 two years ago and it hunts the salt alot , and is holding up great. Mine on the other hand is a rust bucket and was bought at the same time. Now my browning Pump never lets me down when hunting the salt , but now in in the market for a new girlfriend to dance with.

Sorry DH, I just figured with all the ducketts you drop on calls, all you could afford was Mossberg.

I let my friend GKR shoot a Mossberg. In fact I found him a deal on a second one. He shoots it pretty good too. The geese and ducks dont seem to mind. I an pretty open minded that way. Please don't be a shotgun bigot.

Yup that would be correct , but in my 870 I've got take the barrel off and wire brush out the tube where the shell sit at rest, or the dam thing want eject out if it get one little bit of rust in there. It will peel the edge of the shell off.

Have you tried hitting your shells with some krylon? I think I heard that on DHC but I haven't tried it.
