I think Reb feels much the same as me, the current path we are on is going to lead to ruin. we need law enforcement that doesn't answer to the government.

the only reason for the federal government to exist is to protect from foreign invasion, make treaties, and maintain interstate commerce. that's all.

We also need a government that answers to the people, stays the fuck out of our way, protects our borders and upholds the constitution. I think we're already ruined.

What we NEED...is a lot less government. Since Obama was elected, the largest number of employees hired by anyone have been GOVERNMENT employees. Who pays all of these assholes....we do!

I don't believe all cops are pricks. I've given and trust a cop with almost total power on this forum. That should be proof right there.

I do feel that police in a broad sense have way much power and way too few checks in this country. This is a perfect example of that.

If a cop wrights a search warrant it must first be approved by a district attorney, IF the district attorney approves it then you have to take it to a superior court judge and he or she MUST approve it before the warrant can be executed.

So basically a search warrant goes through two checks and balances before it can be served.

I don't see how any district attorney or superior court judge would have signed off on a search warrant for this unless there is more to the story.

They once could, but as society stands currently, no i don't think people could enforce it. I also believe there are far too many laws on the books that shouldn't be there.

People with good moral character i believe could do it fairly. how many of them are actually out there, i don't know.
so at one point society governed itself fairly?

Of course people with good moral character could...but look at our world?!

The police is supposed to be part of society not part of the government. In the US the government is supposed, keyword supposed, to be part of society as well.

I'm not looking for a specific answer just a back and forth conversation.

Who do you want policing the police?

The American people should be policing it's police instead of absolute obedience that has been ingrained into our society in regards to the police.

You say cops have been given too much power...what powers would you suggest they take away from them?

Just like my answer above it's not so much a change in policy as it is a change in the way society views and gives police so much authority without question. Did you ever see that video of the 15 year old girl in that fast food joint that stripped down because she believed she was speaking with a police officer over the phone and was taking orders from them? That kind of blind follower-ship is what needs to change not specific policy.

Is society better off without them?

Of course not, that was a troll question.
society does police the police. That's why our job is so difficult nowadays. In fact some cops are so over scrutinized that when the time comes in a life or death situation, they'll hesitate, trying to figure out what the right thing to do is, and worrying too much about doing the wrong thing

Do some real research and you'll find law enforcement has come a long way in terms of corruption.

#tazincali

Are you referring to the LAPD under Federal Mandates with regards to civil rights?

I don't know about that. I've been known to bend a law or two. Although I would like it if citizenship came with an "opt out" clause. You have to remain available for the draft and jury duty, but anything else you can voluntarily forego, in exchange for being left the fuck alone. I don't want anything from the government, other than to be left alone. I would agree to never call the police or fire department if government would never come asking questions. I don't want the Coast Guard. If Venezuela invades my yard, I agree that I am solely responsible for defending myself. Truthfully, unless you are accepting some sort of government handout, your contribution is a net negative for you. A pretty damn big negative, at that. And that's BS.
