Millet has decided that the plethora of smells coming from the bank are too good to ignore.
Get near shore and splash...aw crap.
This thing helps reel him back in. The beeper is all it takes.
2-year-old puppy problems.
Convincing him that he can't catch a deer may take time.

Where do you guys keep the transmitter?
Mine has to be in my waders or ill need it and it's tied to the blind. If I just let it hang around my neck its tangled up in everything.

Damn.
Reminiscing with the wife.
Duck hunting has highs and lows.
She immediately went to the lowest...lol
I had this ancient boat. A herters Hudson Bay.
"Borrowed" my dads boat motor which fell off into about 25 feet of water. Sharp turn. Rotten transom.
I had it by the fuel line a second.
Dredged with a big ass hook for hours.
We said one more pass and give up.
Snagged the fuel line.
Sheesh it was hanging there and I'm yelling grab the motor not the fuel line.
I still have that boat motor today.

Believe it or not this is what people want to see.
There are 35 guests and one user (me) online right now.

The spread is in J-shape.
It was not effective that day but is a good example of what pattern to think about putting decoys out it.
I used a J to try and fence them from using the area left of the blind.
Sometimes we use decoys like a fence to funnel ducks where we want. Careful...overdo it and make an actual funnel of decoys and the ducks may get nervous.
Has to be subtle persuasion imo.
Had 36 decoys strung out in a J.

It's going to snow tonight so I think maybe I'll go out tonight and sleep in my blind. Haven't done that since the 1900s.

I've gotten wet before.
Hell I was born wet.
You light a fire and dry out even if it's not allowed.
Tell the judge it was 18F and you were soaked.
You're wet and dig thru your wallet hoping to find a receipt or some paper to start with.
This idea may come in handy.
Wax paper and a crayon.
You can't get it wet. The lighter?
Yeah that's up to u.

There is an inch of snow expected over the next couple days.

I know the principal of the Gosnel, MO. High School.
Rumor is that there has been guys out at 7mile in line since last Thursday.
Uh. Damn that's dumb as hell.
Point is that they got some water and ducks.
Lined up?
That's ridiculous but possible.
There are some truly ate up waterfowlers.

Damn dirty crackheads.
I liked that show.

Yawn. This season has been slow. In 1999 I limited out on mallards every trip. This year we may actually have a winter. If so things may get a lot better.
I hope so. It's hard to keep optimistic after a few dns in a row. Damn dns hunts are what makes it hunting but I'm spoiled and cranky whaa.
Three mallards are better than zero but I sort of got used to killing dozens in a season.
3? Come on mannnnnn....
Bring on the new ducks in numbers.
According to them maps every bird in the world done flew the coop. However I'm still seeing robins and flocks of blackbirds as of Tuesday.
Dumb maps.

Am close to burning the spinners and motorized crap.
Last time out two nice little flocks veered off the instant they caught sight of my two spinners.
It's Amish hunting from here on out.

I’m keeping my higdon pulsator running, some mornings it’s the only thing moving in da swamp. Also there’s always the slim and none chance I’ll have a strap full of greenheads and I can snap a pic with the pulsator next to the dead birds to get some prostaff crap. Then again probably won’t because I painted the thing to resemble a Muscovy. 2 more days and it’s shoot to kill time.

What?
They give you stuff?
Hm. Want Pic with strap of pintails?
Mines the lucky duck version tho.
Think they'll care?
After Christmas I'll go to Arkansas and mooch my way onto some wet land with a pit that's in a good place.
Yeah...it can happen.

It's lining up to be better here for the first split so I'll stay up here. Big gamble and I can change my mind quicker than a wife.

I'm different than you all.
My dad took me duck hunting enough to get me interested then cut me loose.
Been on my own the entire time. 40+ years.
I've gotten the wrong idea about lots of things and it'd be helpful if we shared stuff like cleaning a semi auto.
I really thought there was a secret spray.
I run into guys that are even more clueless than I was when my dad said "you're on your own little bird, fly away".

I sure wouldn't like seeing a young guy struggle with the things I have so I'll take some abuse to try and help just one guy get past a misconception like spraying a semi with oil. That's a no no

Does you dog like getting nails cut?
I'm finally having to work on millet's.
He could care less and he don't fight it thank God.
He's strong enough to force an issue.
Milo however is a pita to do.

I dreaded having to fight Millet to trim his claws but it's not that way. Such a relief it is.
He also really loves getting his ears worked on.
I got lucky when I found that thread and asked for a puppy.
They gave me pick of the litter. There were two black males i got the big one. His face is healing up pretty well.

I don't think this guy realizes how I feel at this time about him and his really shitty timing.
The race starts in 13 minutes.
He convinced me that it's bone dry a week ago.
Amazing. Grrr.

YT thinks I need to know this obscure fact.
The more popular version by ram jam is simply a re-edit of a previously released recording of the same song.
Who knew?

Those seeds should produce some whopper watermelons in your fertile midwestern soil. Sweet like Tupelo honey too.
In other news: Louisiana east zone opens tomorrow at LST. The weather app says the east wind is blowing now at 2 mph. This should push a little more water from lake Maurepas into the amite river swamp, that’s good news. I might actually see a duck tomorrow, can’t wait!
