honestly they usually get taken by the locals if they're in good shape. I may or may not have salvaged three deer myself while working graveyards. The elk are prime. I've never had the opportunity to shag one. Theyre always taken before I get there. This woulda been my first if it were in a busy area. Woulda looked bad ripping the back straps off that thing while folks drive by

No kidding? Here, the state boys are supposed to write you a possession tag, but they just tell you to take it. Although I've never been stopped and questioned while loading one up (yes, I take the whole thing).

no just blackies. And of course mulies on the eastern side of the state. At least to my knowledge we don't have any whitetails

Dad and I saw a doe in a ditch one day, circled around and saw it was injured. At the same time a Hiway Patrol was driving by and we flagged him down so he could write a tag to keep it. He stopped and as I was telling him I would shoot the deer, he too off running, pulled out a .44 and smoked the deer in the head, jumped on top of it and slit its throat to let it bleed. I am thinking this guy is awesome, he just did the same thing I would have done. He ended up giving us a leak proof blanket to line th trunk of my car with and helped me load it up, he was awesome.
