I'll more than likely just mount it right there in the field.

All of this talk of Orvis and their stores makes me think I made a bad decision when II gave away a rod and reel. Couldn't even tell you what it was, other than Orvis. I know you could see right through the rod, which I thought was odd. The guy that gave them to me was LOOOOOOAAAAADDDDDEEEEEEDDDDDD (for the Ron White fans), so I imagine it wasn't cheap. Both rod and reel came in some leather cases. Oh well.

He is right. Those Orvis rods go for 800-1000. Depending on what reel he had he could of very well had a 1500-2000 dollar setup.

I wasn't. But I could've easily traded it for a shotgun. I thought it was something like a $50 rod and reel, since I'd never been around fly fishing at all. And like I said, the rod was translucent, could see right through it, so I thought it wasn't "sturdy" enough for "serious" trout fishermen.

And it was over 20 years ago, and I now feel like crying about it.

I swear I heard a blood curdling scream coming from somewhere east southeast a little while ago. Now I know what it was.

Orvis Clearwater 9 foot 5, not a better rod for the money in my opinion. 20 year warranty that renews every time it's used also.

Ordered a quantum PT energy 6:3:1 baitcaster with a quantum smoke 6"6 medium fast. Plan on picking up some fly gear when I get home and can stop up at Cabelas to see which I like more.

Warning: Assa dont look at the prices of these items. I dont want you to stroke out.

How well do those quantams hold up for you? I've had bad luck out of the newer models, I tried a smoke and a exo. The smoke was ok but the gears didn't last. The exo was a joke, the gears burnt up and it felt like plastic.
