I have no idea what boot camp food tasted like. We had like 5 minutes to eat and were only allowed to look at the plate or straight ahead, no talking. We didn't waste timing chewing or tasting.

I eat in less than 5 minutes every meal...always have. We had lobster, shrimp, scallops and tbones at basic. I coud thoroughly enjoy it in the 5 minutes i was allotted

My guess is there was a group of people who didn't like reubens, and had no freinds because of it, so they added 1000 island to cover up all of the flavor of the meat, cheese and kraut, and for some stupid reason it became convention.

If you can't taste the kraut, you didn't use enough kraut.
Reuben without 1000 island is seriously communist.

Your boot camp was definately different to mine. At my boot camp, you would never even hear the words lobster or scallops and, the word shrimp was only heard said right before two little guys started fighting each other.

When I was a kid, you could tell when someone grew up with a mom that couldn't cook. The first thing they do when they sit down to eat is grab the ketchup or ask where it is, no matter what is at the table. They do it without ever even trying the food first.
A friend of mine came over for dinner. My Mother had cooked a roast of some kind. First thing he does is ask for ketchup. My Mother says "try it first please, you might like it". You could see the terror in Billy's eyes as he "obeyed" my Mother's request. Probably the first time since his infancy he ate without ketchup. As we were growing up, he would always ask me to see if he could eat dinner with us when ever he came over.
Another indicator that someone's ma can't cook, when you go to their house and there are 2 or more bottles of ketchup on the table and people grab it before they are finished dishing up their plate.

This really hits close to home. My mom would put ketchep on the table beside your plate for some meals! I remember once we got macaroni and cheese and then the ketchup bottle hit the table right after the plate did! Oh Shit! I will never forget the trance like look of fear from my sister!!!!

Same here. There were more than a few times when we were running late, and we had to eat as we shuffled down the chow line with our trays. The DS was at the end screaming "TAKE A BITE OF BREAD- TAKE A BITE OF BEANS- TAKE A BITE OF CHICKEN- NOW THROW IT AWAY YOU HAD YOUR WELL ROUNDED MEAL" and there was a big trash can at the end where your tray got dumped before running right back out the door to form up and march back to the barracks. After about the third time this happened, trying to cram food in like an animal, you learned to stuff food in your mouth with one hand, and food in your cargo pockets with the other, hoping you didn't get caught. Nothing like pulling a chunk of baked chicken and a roll out of your pocket and wolfing it down in the latrine so you didn't get caught with food in the barracks

Meatloaf is a man's meal. Meat, garlic, onions....what's not to love? I don't do the whole ketchup thing on mine....that might make me un-American too

There is nothing fine about it. If I wanted fine, I will go out and eat something fancy. I eat at home to fill my fat ass up. I don't put ketchup on anything, that shit is nasty

If he dosen't want to eat his MIL's shitty meatloaf, then that's the end of the discussion.

That just sounds wrong.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms.
