and some of my latest purchases came in late last week.
new JD 24 row planter and new JD 9560R both new 12 row corn heads will be here next week along with my other flex draper head. the two new S690's will be in early summer. and ordered 4 new f350s for the guys to have, some of the work trucks down right shit and NOT safe

That's got to be a chunk o change. My cousin and his stepdad farm a little over 1000 acres. They just bought a new harvester and tractor. Couldn't believe what they paid for those.

I think it would be nearly Impossible to start a farm nowadays. Needs to be a family thing. I couldn't imagine dealing with the #s you guys do. Million or so hear, million or so there, make a couple million, buy a million dollar tractor, and come out with an average salary in the end.

even passing the farms down to the younger generations is getting hard to do with out getting ass raped with taxes. having a good CFO is a must these days, i better find a new one moms not going to be around forever.

The harvester my cousin just got was somewhere around $600,000 I think. That's nuts.

And the combine doesn't do shit until you buy some heads. Not sure out there, but I'd imagine it's the same- need at least a corn and a bean head, so you're looking at another $220,000 or so, just in shit to make it harvest. Lunacy.

Yup. With the harvester and heads and new tractors i think he said it was somewhere around 2 mill. He was pretty pumped because the old man is close to retiring and he gets it all when he does.

Basically its like this-
In standard practice, a business can depreciate the capital purchases (equipment, facilities, etc.) over the useful life of the item (typically 7 years for equipment, 15-27.5 years for buildings/facilities). The standard method of depreciation would allow (using easy math) a business to purchase $700,000 worth of equipment and deduct as an expense 1/7th of that amount each successive year ($100,000/year).

Section 179 allows for accelerated or "bonus" depreciation by taking up to 50% of the purchase price in the first year and spreading the remainder over the useful life of the equipment. So, same scenario - business spends $700,000 on equipment and can deduct $350,000 in the first year and then the remaining $350,000 over the next 6 years.

Sec 179 can be useful for managing tax liabilities...but as always, consult your tax professional for advice.

After buying my home and cashing in my nicely accumulated DRIP in JCI for a down payment I am very reluctant to jumping back into a DRIP with most of the companies at 52 week highs that offer them. I love Lenovo computer stock even though i feel i missed a great buying point 6 months ago. Im thinking about dumping cash into MEA at a 52 week low or SHZ nearing a low for a nice mid term turn a round. Set me up Deadeye.
