Starting to get excited about duck season. Getting close to draw weekend, never get drawn but it's worth a shot. Also getting all the applications for draw weekends sent out soon and an online application filled out as well. Can't get here fast enough!

The leader on this call is in Chicago. But he's from Pakistan. And sounds like he just took a huge bite of naan. And seems to be speaking from 18 feet away from the handset. And his English sucks.

Not sure if that counts or not, but it should.

Between me getting my passport and my buddy seeing tentative opener dates set the other day (still nothing official yet), I'm starting to get worried about getting my ducks in a row so I can go shoot ducks.

I'm getting excited myself. Pulled out the calls, cleaned them and tuned one of them. Bought some widgeon decoys dirt cheap and I'm waiting on my buddy to pick me up some egg weights so I can rig them up. So much stuff to do, so little time.

I found a 5 horse Honda on Craigslist for 100 bucks. How hard would it be to turn that into a short tail mud motor?

Impossible. You should buy it for me. I'll be down on Saturday to pick it up. Does it have an integrated fuel tank?

Crap. I thought you were talking about an outboard. Would've made my day. Although you did send me off on a CL tangent. I found this so far- pretty sure the galvanized trailer is worth a pretty good chunk of the asking price.

There are some thread of home made long tails. I don't know about short shafts....

Or put her back on craigslist and try to trade for an outboard.

Get a set of bunk sliders and thank me later.

These are the way to go. Put some on a friends trailer for his duck boat. Made it easy to load and unload when water was shallow or couldn't back trailer into water.

See, the 2x4s are already on there (the thing never had carpet on them), and I pulled carpet out of the spare bedroom that I've been saving to put on it. Aka, doesn't cost me a dime.

Although I've heard if you use the plastic slider bars, and use glove-it on the bottom side of the boat, you really need to slam the brakes really hard at the top of the ramp to break it all loose

No brakes needed for these things, not the best choice if you are using a regular boat ramp in good water. Some of the places we hunted had no ramps and water depths varied. If we could get the front of the boat on the trailer we could hand crank it up, also made it much easier to launch the boat in shallow water.
Gets tricky when using a regular boat ramp, who ever is in the boat is holding a rope tied off to trailer while backing down, would get to waters edge before unstrapping the bow. Or you could back in then unhook once you had your waders on.

we use the 6.5 hp cheapo motors from harbor freight to power the hydraulics on our boats. they sit on open deck of a boat getting salt water spray on them all day long. usualy last at least 3-4 years before we replace them. a honda doesn't last any longer or have any more power
