There are around 900,000 police officers in the United States and the vast majority of them have a love of country and respect the constitution. Just like the Coast Guard heading out in storms American Police Officers will literally run into gunfire trying to save innocent life. As with any profession the bad ones make the news but what isn't reported is the millions of positive contacts law enforcement officers make every year. If you take the number of police contacts with the public per year then divide it against the number of sustained complaints what you will find is the overwhelming majority of police contacts are handled professionally.

BTW- I know that Trooper in the video and he has always been a hothead plus he doesn't understand when a citizen is required to provide ID. Additionally they just had a 24 year old guy shoot at the Capitol building while standing in a crowd of people so all the Troops were a little hinked up. If a week before some nutjob came onto your Coast Guard base and unloaded two full mags at the building then the following week you see a guy that is walking around filming your building and taking pictures of where security is posted its not unreasonable to think the Troops may be a little skittish.

BTW-I went to college at The University of South Alabama in Mobile and the Brown Water Sailors used to come party with us at Poor Richards. That was over 20 years ago so not sure if the bar is still there.

I never filed complaints tho, so reported complaints is tough to go off from.

I was a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper for 11 years and made over 15,000 traffic stops and over 1000 custody arrests and did not receive one single civilian complaint. It pisses me off as well when cops are rude and power tripping.

BTW-

Six of my buddies have been shot and around 15 have been run over by cars. If you've ever had someone that looked very ordinary pull a gun or a knife on you it makes you look at everybody like they may try to kill you. It takes a while for that edge to wear off and constant reminders that the vast majority of citizens you come in contact with are law abiding.

13 years, 1000+ arrests, lost count of traffic stops but never an IAD complaint.
Stopped an old Hispanic fella one night in 2000 on a DWI investigation, he was 68 very nice, polite and was probably borderline and where I worked .25 was my average BAC. Told my trainee after he was cleared warrants we would drop him off at his house 3 blocks away. 5 minuted later dispatch toned him. Had an active U.S. Marshalls warrant for escape from Fed lockup in Ca., escaped in 1978.
Polite, Be Professional, Be Prepared to Kill anyone you meet. It's a hardline but necessary.

Anyone here who thinks I have a blanket hatred for all cops based solely on them just being cops doesn't know me. I have a ton of respect for the few cops that I've met in my life that genuinely want to do good and make a difference. It has got to be a super hard job and pretty thankless I'd bet.

The protocol of police work is broken, I don't care how edgy you are because of what happened last week, if you don't have the stomach for walking up to a car you don't know and not being a pompous jack ass get a job at a bakery. I have seen in my life the time when a cop was just another person that talked to you like a person, to a cop that approaches your car and talks like a machine, orders and insinuates, questions and intimidates. It's fucked up and needs to change. Sure there may be some good cops, but the M.O. Of how you all do business anymore makes police work a breeding ground for little hitlers, a trip down you tube lane makes that truth very abundant.
