I am a duck hunter from times long past. Born & Raised (71 years ago) in the CHESAPEAKE BAY TIDEWATER. People discovered the DEL-MAR-VA PENINSULA, and suddenly I was a stranger in my own land. So, I moved to MAINE looking for the old ways and another adventure. Didn't work out, The Old Maine Woodsman Spirit is no longer apparent. I recently moved to SW MISSOURI in hope of experiencing the CENTRAL/MISSISSIPPI FLYWAY , and perhaps, at last find a niche where I could share a blind and memories with some New "Old School Friends".

Welcome to the light! And that's some first boat man. I'm impressed.

Its first trip was today the motor is not right

I cant see well enough to steer to my spot

But i mounted the grill n table/ shelf so we can have breakfast on sun.

Needs lots of tinkering

I will get a picture of the shooting side next, in the morning.

Where are you located? We have another member here who has a large barge like that. Works great for him, maybe he will weigh in on some design ideas.

Tinkering is why we do this. I just wanted more space

For friends

Dogs

And a hot breakfast while hunting.

So far so good.

I got the 20' aluminum pontoon for 400

The upper frame is a garage sale find. A 40 dollar tarp shed

This will also double as deer blind while fishing thru the floor. Too far to shoot across the lake. But no way to hunt that spot without wrecking it from scent etc.
The blind will be a close shot and no scent in or near the woods.

I do have a dog ramp. Works like a draw bridge

I put a boat bumper underneath the end so it sits up in the water at a nice angle.

This boat really needs a surface drive motor.

That will be my winter project

My lake is full of rice

Have you seen a surface drive run on a ponton? Not saying it can't be done but it's new to me.

Welcome I like your pontoon boat.
I converted a 24' party barge into a blind , that burned to the flooring.
I enjoy seeing some more pics.

I think the SD will be a challenge all the way around. But thats ok. The 9.9 4 stroke just doesnt cut it. I want to go where I want to go.

What are the reasons that regular boat motors dont work as surface drive, besides cooling

I did mount a fire extinguisher before the grill. If u dont mind tellin what caused the fire legband im all ears. Or pm me.

Would it be a bad idea to put motion decoys on the roof of blind?? Or maybe some type of confidence deke?

Yes, you want all the attention to be in your spread not on your blind.

No motion. But if you have egrets or the like around you it wouldn't hurt to stick one of those on top I don't think.

Nice lookin boat man. The surface drive idea should work if you can get the boat cleared to drive it. I know pontoons are tall transom. Just not sure how it would push one, which they don't draft much water so it should go where you want it to. Damn sure get rid of the lower unit hanging down

I would think the surface drive would be hampered by the pontoons, out the back turning may be an issue with that . I would be worried about putting a prop blade in one and sinking
