When you shake the jar of final mix, how big are the bubbles and how long do they stay?
That's how a real moonshiner does his proofing, alledgedly.

I don't think that works with additives in it, like cider and brown sugar, though. Allegedly.

Sorry, I meant the finished alleged paint thinner. Not finish alleged desert drink.

If someone were allegedly a cheapass and weren't prone to buying all kinds of expensive equipment, what would be the method of choice to produce this paint thinner, allegedly?Allegdly, I have done it before, but the alleged equipment was of poor quality and only lasted a couple runs.

Stainless steel pot, SS bowl, some copper tube (3/8" or 1/2"), thermometer, and a 5 gallon jug. That's about it. And a turkey fryer.

Allegedly, I do it with a thermometer, and the first and last thirds don't get drank anyway. They get thrown in the hopper with the next batch cooking. Hangover minimizer. Allegedly.

You have to worry about the heads, too (the first third). As it's heating up, it releases a lot of fusel oils, which give an off-taste and a wicked hangover. You can actually feel it in the liquid, an oiliness. When that stops, you're good. Then you need the temp at the end, to keep the bad alcohol out as well. I find it easier just to use the thermometer, although it tends to run about 10 minutes behind. Quickest way is just to let it run, then when it's done, divide the thirds. Keep the heads and tails to run in the next batch, and drink the hearts (middle third). Allegedly.

When I said let it run out, I meant don't keep the first part until it doesn't make your eyes water, think I got that from mile Rowe off dirty jobs

Has anyone ever told you how it tastes? Since I know you have never tried it:lol:

AT would probably take me on two Emu-hunts to get my copper pot boiler and the world-class reflux paint thinner maker thing.
It holds 10 gallons of mash. (whatever that is)
You gotta see the thing...it's so beautiful it makes me cry.
(sniffle)

AT, WHY do you insist on making apple pie that's 100 proof?
80 or less so that the ladies don't think it's very strong.

You need to try some of what I made. It's only 50 proof but kicks like a mule. Something about a copper pot does magic.

One more thing...buy a hydrometer from a distiller. They're about 10 bucks online.

It's only around 20 proof. Better drink 4 times your normal amount just to feel a buzz.

No, that was the original alleged liquor. After the mix, it should be somewhere around 45 or so, according to my calculations.
