I understand what he's saying. What I'm pointing out is the southern boys never want to acknowledge teal as days of duck season.

Duck season is a separate entity all by its lonesome. Early teal does not equal duck season. ;)

Ducks are just ducks, but September teal are special, in both the short buss and extra neat way.

Right

It's true, very similar to the early goose seasons, they are state mandated and do not count against your allotted days. I know the goose seasons are nuisance seasons, not sure what teal seasons are considered, but they are definitely not considered part of your duck seasons (as defined by the USFWS).

I understand its not counted toward the 60 day season, but I think it funny how the southern boys don't count it as a "duck hunting day". Regular season is 60 days, teal season (whick is a bonus) is 16 days, teal is a duck so duck season equals 76 days.

I got drunk last night, had 20 beers, but since 6 of them were Budweiser (not my favorite) they don't count.

Negative. Take my home state of Nebraska for example. We get 74 days for duck, and an early teal season for 16 or 9 days, depending on what part of the state you are in. Some parts of the state don't even get an early teal season. If it were part of "duck" season, we would all get the same amount of days. They may not happen at the same time, but we would get the same amount of days. Yes, I get what you are trying to say is that they are hunting ducks for 76 days, but Early Teal is not considered a duck season regarding the federal framework. Hunting ducks for 76 days, yes, duck season for 76 days, no.

The season is shorter because it's hard to keep a good shotgun in LA.

Call it whatever you want, putting a shotgun to your shoulder and trying to kill a teal (also a duck) is still duck hunting. The time of year when it's legal to kill ducks is also known as 'duck season', hard as it may be to admit.

I have a separate teal season, sea duck season, and black duck season. Technically, if you take those out, I think I only get about a 17 day duck season.

And during those 17 days all you see is pintail, so in reality, you don't get a duck season at all.

I get a 107 duck season but the 2 days that they give juveniles in September is taken away from that, so in reality I only get 105 days.

Since Illinois has 4 zones with 4 separate seasons that do overlap a bit...there is probably close to or over 100 days. Never actually counted but it's a technicality since each zone only gets 60 days. It starts in mid-October in the north-zone and ends in late-January in the south with NO SPLITS. That's over 100 days in Illinois depending on where you are. If you add ten days for teal you get well over 110 days of hunting ducks kinda sorta.

This is what I'm talking about, if we count how many days I could actually hunt ducks in Nebraska, I think mine ends up being something like 126 days. Doesn't mean I have a 126 day duck season.

Awesome! Apples and oranges. Different zones was not the point of the discussion. The point was people not wanting to acknowledge the days of early teal as "duck season" days.

That's because they aren't, if they were duck season days, they would count against the amount of days you are allotted for "duck season" by the USFWS. Think about it the other way, what if Nebraska wanted to offer an early duck season (not just teal, all ducks), would they be able to do that and still have 74 days for regular duck season? Of course not, that is just a split. The people who invented duck seasons don't consider it a duck season, why would I?

Tia? Is that you?

Shit, I thought I was arguing with my wife for a second, not wanting to accept reasoning and logic and all.

If the state allows the pursuit of ducks - that is duck hunting, the dates which said pursuit is allowed = duck season.
