On the topic of knives, if I didn't constantly watch myself, I would more than likely have piles of them as well. Few things are as "nice" and useful as a well-made knife. Or even a poorly made practical knife. I carried one of the yellow delrin Case trappers for a long time, but switched about two years ago to a clip knife. Best thing ever. Got completely tired of my old knife falling out of my pocket, and the clip knife is about 17 million times easier to open.

Been using a stanley so long its secong nature to just grab for that little knot.
Starting doing it after I lost my last utility knife.

Neat concept, but not really practical for a working blade. Hell of a nice guy though.

I'm not home right now to dig out my collection but had photos two of my favorite old knives on my PC. The double edged Randall model 2-8 was my silent partner in Vietnam for a couple of years and is 45 years old. It's still razor sharp and holds an edge like very few other knives will. The other Randall model 1-7 all purpose fighting knife has traveled with me in the woods quite a bit.. I love well made American knives!!

Gerber wins over leatherman since you can open the damn thing one handed. Always hated prying a leatherman all the way around.

Wrong Gerber makes some damn fine blades and are my preferred American knife company but their multi-tools don't hold a candle to Leatherman in quality and the actual tools on there. I've owned many kinds of both and used a Gerber for a year at work before getting my first Leatherman a while back. The few extra seconds it takes to open the Leatherman are worth the trade up in quality. Also if you get used to it you can open the Leatherman one handed too.

When my grandpa died in '89, one thing he left me was this knife. Don't really have a knife collection other than the ones I use.

Gerber and Buck have performed well for me. While I'm sure they aren't the best, they do a fine job IMO.

Try a Gerber Gator. I agree they're newer line of knives aren't as good but the Gator is a classic Gerber blade and ive enjoyed mine for years. I just got a new one after losing my old one. I have both the folder and the fixed in drop point.

I've sure been happy with my Kershaw NRG. Blade is thin enough that I broke the very tip off mine clearing cut grass and anchor chord from between a prop and shaft housing, but it takes and holds an edge the best of any stainless I've had, opens one handed and is easy to hang onto inside a deer.

That hook you called a bird hook is actually called a gut hook. They can't write "gut" on anything they want you to buy.
The word "gut" isn't a very good advertising buzz-word.
Now does it make sense?

Have never used a gut-hook but I'm betting it would be really handy for pulling out the lungs with.
