I do not routinely buy prepared food at a restaraunt. Maybe ten times a year. If it is a sit down meal...I tip very well. Sometimes up to 50%. I am assacheap on everything else but I enjoy tipping.

My first real job with a regular paycheck was a busboy. I was payed $2.50/hour plus tips. The tips I got was complicated.
Waitresses got tips off tables. I could STEAL it but never did. At the end of the day the waitresses calculated their food sales and paid the busboys 2% of that amount. The busboys split that. The head busboy ripped us off little bits here and there. One day he really got me good and I quit.

My tip money averaged to about $4/hour. I made good money in 1977. Real good.
Not tipping someone who works for tips is a sin.
McDonalds and Starbucks....no tips for that.

i refuse to tip for someone doing their job, unless they have gone above and beyond normal expectations. even the people at restaurants usually don't deserve a tip. had a hostess at Ihop though that realized our food never came, went back, got us appetizers, got the food cooked fast, gave us desert and we got our meal free. i left her a 50 for doing a damn fine job.

As a teenager I witnessed the waitresses fighting over who got to be Big Jim's server, the great service he got.
They also fought over who had to deal with Cheap Charlie.
If you dont tip or give poor tips, dont go to the same place twice. Even Dominoes keeps track of who tips. I know...worked there as well. You are asking for crappy service the next time.... If you feel like you got bad service, complain with your voice.

Here is an example. My crew used to go to the same mexican place every day. Hired an idiot named Ray who was doing southpark (beach)diet. .you know, all meat. No carbs. He had all these special needs, did not tip, and complained about not enough meat every day.
After I got rid of dickhead cheap-ass we got back to normal. Knew all the waiters and partied with the whole familia. Ray about fucked that up by being restaraunt challenged. (Idiot)
They always did me up with large portions etc because WE TIPPED LARGE.

I've not tipped before but only bc a waiter was absolute shit. I tip 15% for normal decent service and I've been known to tip 25-30% for a waiter or waitress who provides exceptional service.

There is much truth to this. There's always that feeble, small hope somewhere in the mind that she will see the 25% tip, and offer to take you into the back and make a porn movie real quick. No matter how ludicrous, the thought is always there.

forgot to add, i tip very well on my first drink at the bar and to my barber. i tip 20-40 bucks on the first drink, guess who ends up getting more than a few high quality free drinks the rest of the night and bottomless beers? my buddies have yet to figure this out. also, i tip my barber well because the guy uses a straight very close to my jugular, and that's reason enough.

This. Wife hates it. Service still trumps though. One thing that drives me nuts is empty water glasses, it's stupid but it's one of the easiest ways to make sure I tip you well, it shows me you are paying attention and I tip accordingly. I don't much care for tipping at places that split tips (I still do, just not as high), I see both sides that it encourages all servers to do better so their tip count is higher, but I want to be able to individually reward someone for excellent service and know they deserve all of that tip, not have to split it with some one riding their coat tails.

stopped in my 2nd favorite Asian food place around here. pork fried rice and some hot and sour soup. bill was 13 dollars and i tipped them 10 bucks for carry out.

trouble is she bosses me around( no you no eat that you have mongolian beef, crab rangoon with pork egg roll!!!) if i want something different i almost have to beg. damn little lady scares. service is top notch and she always sez(on no that to much, come back soon)

Yes. Pretty much anyway. I call her dragon lady or Godzilla most of the time. I bet she never thought she would marry a red neck and have to deal with this shit.
