Olly wrote:I HAVE to report to work by UCMJ law.... but if I go without pay for around 5 or 6 months I would be dead in the water. I could possibly make it another 4 months if I sell my four wheeler, boat, and project truck. Everyone in my office is confident that this will be resolved before the 15th but I'm not so sure. I'm stepping up efforts to sell my four wheeler right now.

Unemployment money comes from the government.
How the fuck is the government saving any money during a shutdown if workers are being payed anyways?
Can someone explain this to me please.

I thought the USCG was under the Homeland Security umbrella now, effectively taking it out of the military and putting it in an unneeded, unnecessary Democrat "make work for people with no skills" same as those people at the airport that fuck with you when you are trying to get on a plane. Uniform Code of Military Justice is for military members.

its not about saving the govt money. its about defunding portions of or all of obamacare. this effort to defund obamacare is the cause and reason of the shitdown.

Thanks for the offer but I'm not broke by any means. I'm better off than most Coasties I know. I've been talking of selling it for months and this is just a kick in the butt I needed to finally list it.

Not true. The last offer on the table was to FULLY fund obamacare, by eliminating ALL exemptions and putting congress under obamacare as well. But the senate wouldn't even vote on that proposal. So, you get what we have here today. Which is the way he wants it.
assateague wrote:And for the record, government employees are paid far better, and receive far better benefits than their private sector equivalents. So you know what? Fuck them. Sorry about your luck.
assateague wrote:Yes. Any job I've ever had that was paid for by the govt has paid far, far better than a private sector money job.
And make no mistake, I'm not saying it doesn't suck. I'm saying it doesn't suck any worse than when the exact same thing happens to a private sector worker. It's time folks stopped acting like it somehow is worse. Nonsense.

I work in a career field very similar to his and there is none that transfers over. What we would get out of the military is the management training or the ability to tell people how to accomplish complex things in a short period of time. To build on that, I went and got an accounting degree in my free time. I am trying my hardest to set myself up for success when my retirement date from the Air Force comes in ten years.
