Actually have owned this gun for 9-10 years and haven't had a single problem. Keep it clean on the inside, beat up on the outside. According to some on this forum, I must have lucked out.

Must have. Everyone that I've talked to that owns one says that's their only complaint. Usually say that you'd better have a spare handy because when it goes, it goes fast.

Dan what's the company that makes the stainless steel tube as a replacement? Was thinking about one for mine, not wolf, sure something?

Wolff makes a replacement spring for inside the tube.

I run one SBE with the OEM spring/tube and one with the SureCycle.

I have pretty high maintenance standards and have had no issues with the stock spring and tube - that's the gun that has 30k+ rounds through it and it's never had an issue with the recoil spring. But I maintain it, keep it lightly lubed, have weep holes drilled in the stock to let water drain from the stock, etc.

All the ones I've replaced I've gone with the SC (one of my own and probably 5-6 others for friends) because they are super easy to maintain and run like greased lightning, and the machined stainless is perfect for guys that are in harsh conditions and don't always take time to maintain their guns.

Did you drill the weep holes all the way into the tube?

I've got a wolf spring and a stock, I jut cleaned my tube tonight and put the wolf back in. I've not had any issues with it except when it gets real dirty, the hemlock needles from the barge blind play hell as the compact all in the recoil tube area, I didn't think the sure cycle would help with that, was thinking I may get one if I start hunting salt every year though.

Nope. Just in the stock, just forward of the sling swivel.
Got tired of having to unscrew the butt pad to let water drain out of it.

The HK's had a one piece tube (follower + spring permanently enclosed in the tube) with no way to disassemble.
The SC was a great replacement because you can disassemble the works and clean it.
The newer Benellis fixed that problem by making a tube that could be disassembled.

I had issues with 'stove piping' the ejected shell, I found out this part of #190G had come unscrewed and was tumbling inside the tube causing the spring to bind up. Put the part back together, and replaced with the Wolffe spring and it has been running fine since.

Pretty sure mine is a second (or third?) year HK import, and the tube could be disassembled, just needed heat on the Loc-Tited rear cap nut. Only took it apart once before deciding that too much hassle and just flushed the tube and spring with cleaner after that. Never had a problem, given annual (or semi-annual) flushings, but did eventually replace the steel OEM tube and spring with a Sure Cycle's stainless as a, rare for me, preventative maintenance measure.

That's good to know - I've only looked inside 2-3 HK's and they were all the same and I never understood why they made them that way.

Kind of ironic that we just talked about this. After hunting last sunday I cleaned my gun for the first time this season, then I go hunting yesterday and it starts acting up. Stove piping a spent shell a few times. About half of the time today it was basically a single shot, short stroking and not cycling the 2nd round. Took it home and tore it down, same as last time.

Cap on the back of the plunger (? Dont know actual name¿) came apart and was jamming up the recoil spring, not letting it cycle right.

I put loctite on it last time but probably didn't clean it well enough before hand. This time I cleaned with brake clean, then re-assembled with loctite. We'll see how long it holds.

Shoulda bought a Charles Daly.
