The deer are different, the second one will score 148 5/8 green and is 3years, 4months and 27days ole. Not really a good buck and it should be shot now.

The collars they have on the red wolves here are easy to see. Some of them have chips in them, but from my understanding it's like the ones you can get put in your dog in case it gets lost, not a actual tracking device.

yes they are easy to see. GPS collars do exist but they are super expensive so they don't usually use them, especially when they suspect the animal will be shot with one on.

Every wolf here gets registered. If you shoot a wolf with some sort of ID, they are going to find out and my guess would be take it back.

They are going to take the equipment back, you get to keep the animal.

I have a tag and I see a pack of wolves, I'm shooting the biggest or prettiest one, I could care less if it's wired.

I would aim for the collar.

Oh yeah, and Betty- this just furthers my argument that the state owns them. If I catch a bunch of wolves and put radio tracking collars on them and tag their ear, how much trouble would I get in? Because they're not mine, that's why I'd get in trouble. But let that fucker get hit by a car and see how quick the state ponies up cash to pay for the repairs. Don't hold your breath.

The ones here are tracking collars but supposedly there are only about 100 in the wild and I would guess less than half have collars. They're not GPS collars. They are telemetry collars.

They buy the red wolves and coyotes from a trapper here for $100 each if he catches them on private land. He does the trapping for them on the refuges as well but I'm not sure how much he gets paid.

Anyway, they sterilize the coyotes and turn them back loose on the refuge. The reason for sterilizing them is to keep them from breeding with the "red wolves", which in reality are nothing more than coyotes. The whole Red Wolf program is a joke and just another example of unneeded government funding and job security.

You can't track with telemetry collars, unless you want to chase the fuckers across the countryside for eternity. they only tell you a very general direction. the receiver pings and you have to interpret the pings, takes a good bit of practice and half the time they don't work that good. the only way you could track with one would basically be line of sight anyway.

I know a little bit about telemetry tracking. Whether or not it is the best thing in the world or not is not what I'm talking about. I simply stated that they, the USF&W have tracking collars on wolves(and bears) here and that the collars are telemetry collars. That is a fact. They have full time employees that do nothing but ride around tracking these things and playing with them. Hell, they even built a "red wolf hospital and rehab facility" just for these things.
