I know someone who was looking to climb to Everest base camp and that was going to be over 20k. I can easily see a bid for the summit being six figures.

I've always heard 100k. I'd do it if I had 100 grand to blow.

I lived in TN go a awhile, I've seen how y'all southerners react to an inch of snow.
I don't think you could make it thru a winter here let alone the conditions on Everest.

Fuck that.

I work very hard to maintain this physique. Lots of couch time and Little Ceasar's. I'm not going to screw it up by getting in shape just to climb a mountain.

That. And if I am going to climb a mountain, there better be something to kill or catch at the top.

The first guy was frozen, but alive...is there not enough oxygen up there to start a fire for the guy?

I'm with Bill on the couch and pizza front. I know nothing of mountain climbing, or Everest. Off to Google I go...

Everything has to be carried in. There is nothing of substance to burn up there. The winds and extreme cold are beyond comprehension except on a rare day. The lack of oxygen does weird things to people and they become disoriented/despondent. Taking stuff off the mountain is just as hard as going up.

I'm reading about it now. Looks like they stay warm just with what they are wearing. They cook instant meals, but I imagine that its done with small gas canisters, and done quickly.

I haven't found much on specifics, but I can say this...People are crazy...

They have several camps along the way to help people adjust to the altitude and they have several people that don't even get close to the final ascent.

Yep. Looks like 5 camps. I see climb times, but nothing on how long you stay at each camp to adjust. Seems like the climb could take a few weeks with the time spent at the camps.

I believe you have to have a guide and if he sees you ain't right to advance he can hold you back. The pressure on the guides is high as the high rollers try to push up the mountain and that is where the shit hits the fan.

I saw 30k-50k euro to get a guide.

That's a lot of coin to try to die...

In the words of the late, great Mitch Hedberg, “I want to climb a mountain—not so I can get to the top—cause I want to hang out at base camp. That seems fuckin’ fun as shit. You sleep in a colorful tent, you grow a beard, you drink hot chocolate, you walk around, ‘Hey, you going to the top?’ . . . ‘Soon.’”

Only as a prelude to killing ducks.

I will admit to having gone with my girlfriend a couple times. Its crazy hard. That and swimming are probably the two best things you can do in terms of exercise.
