Bowies and fighting knives. Didn't bother with the skinners. Can't own too many knives!! Maybe I should sell a few? ...Nah!

That 11" blade bowie was made by a fella out of Tuskeegee Oklahoma out of high carbon steel and polished to a mirror finish. Sonofabitch is razor sharp DH and one of my favorites.

Here's a dumb question.

What makes a knife a bowie knife?

Some of the knives in the pictures are what I would call just knives.

it's a blade style that became popular after the Sandbar fight in 1827, where James Bowie battled several opponents with a large knife. also the battle that made him famous in his day.

Most of the knifes in my pictures would be considered fighting knives Bill. A few are actually bowies.
There are many different styles of bowies . Basically a bowie is a broad bladed knife with 7"-12" blade. It will have a clip point, (good for skinning) with a false top edge (sometimes the top edge is also sharpened). It will also have a sturdy hilt for knife fighting.

First quality I look for in a knife.
