Actually, the price of cork went up so to save a few pennies the rod makers use less cork and charge more for the lightweight technology. A great example of BNG (bold new graphics) at work. Now, of course, when someone actually catches a limit of fish on one of these BNG rods, everyone has to have one too. Can you say marketing?

I would be too scared to take one of those out of a rod tube. Fuck overpriced rods.

Shakespeare fly rods from Wal-Mart work just as well. That being said, I used a TFO one time and it was amazing.

shit from walmart will break your wrist and itself. cheap chinese junk.

haven't casted a TFO, so i can't comment on them. my dad got me a Mystic 4 wt. this spring, super fast rod and a stiff tip, i can easily throw 6 weight line with it. I was gonna build another one but couldn't get the blank i wanted so ended up getting the Mystic instead.

I use an Okuma now but that Wal-Mart junk works too. Just feels like you are using a 1x4

The doctor my mom works for is on TFOs staff so he has a whole bunch of them from 4 wt. to 10 wt. Its a completely different experience. The one I used had a super fast reaction time and you could easily get all the line off the spool.

yeah, i recall my dad telling me that the blank is tapered differently to load the rod more effectively. he was gonna buy a blank and build on it but i don't remember if he did or not. There are a lot of relatively unknown companies out there putting out very good blanks that rival or beat Sage and Winston.

don't think so but i just realized that reb's title was about DC, didn't see it until i actually clicked on the picture.

one of the captions says you can use the rod as a depth gauge, would you actually do that?

really? that's honestly pretty surprising. i don't spin fish so i wasn't sure. my old man would have beat my ass and then thrown me in the lake if i did that with a flyrod. way too much risk of breaking a rod tip or getting it hung up.

Have more electronics on my boat now than it's worth so no need to anymore. Nothing wrong with a quick stab to the bottom (not re typing for you perverts) break a tip, glue another on. Our cash in on a warranty.

Your not jabbing the fucker in there like you're attempting a kill shot on the bottom. Just ease it in there until it hits.

What's wrong with just using the line for depth? I'd feel like the very definition of a top water if I was jamming my fishing pole into the water. Waiting for somebody on the bank to yell "you're doing it wrong!"

Makes sense. Jigging it's easy to use line for depth. Would jam a rod down when I want sure while running the boat.
