I agree. Over the years every "waterproof/ breathable" jacket I've worn or borrowed in a heavy enough rain has eventually failed and I go home wet. In my opinion the only true 100% waterproof material is PVC or anything similar as stated by the man the myth the legend...rebel

yup. I carry three surefire flashlights, 4 knives, Oakley boots, two concealed backup weapons (glock 27 and a baby kimber), a camelback that's always full, and an unarmed grenade just for shits and giggles

A zipper that can stand up to salt water.

That's it. That's all I ask. Somehow, even my stuff with plastic zippers will not work after a dip or two. Stupid really.

Now that I think about, there's more. Here's my picky list:

-zippers that work after a couple dips in saltwater. Yes, even the plastic ones.

-sturdier "tie down" fasteners for the sleeves in a 3-in-1 parka. I've never had them NOT break at the cuffs, resulting in sleeves which are pulled halfway back up the outer sleeve every time you take it off.

-less "junk". Nobody uses the "duck call lanyard attachment point", "in-pocket shell loops", or stuff like that. Just make some big roomy pockets, that you can reach into with gloves on.

-while I'm on pockets, shitcan the "drain hole" idea at the bottom of outer pockets. All it does is let water in, when it's raining, or when you reach out to grab the duck, and the tail of your coat dips in. If I ever have so much water in my pockets that I need a hole in the bottom to get it out, I assure you I've got bigger problems.

I wore the same Cabela's dry plus jacket for about 13 years, still have it and the zipper still works. I've had the Cabela's brush buster parka for 3 seasons now, no problems with the zipper yet. I wear them outside my waders so they are constantly submerged in salt water.

My only complaint with the Cabela's jackets is that they all leak in a heavy rain.

This is something I can't stand. The brush buster jacket mentioned above does not have drain holes in the bottom pocket. I'm in water deeper than the bottom pocket a lot and when you climb back in the blind it sucks to have to dump your pocket. It always results in wet sleeves and everything in the blind getting soaked.

X2. I always use the magnet chest pockets on my wader shirts. Its the highest, "dryest" possible place to put my phone on one side and Copenhagen on the other. Phone always goes on the left just so there is zero chance to shoulder the gun and break a screen.
