My worst numbers in awhile. My excuse, I spent most of my season driving to and from the damn WFF hunts.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

How many retrieves do you normally make in a season?

My season was alright but not what I was hoping for. Between my buddy Jim, our guests, and I, we averaged just over 4 birds per hunter per day. I was really suprised when I added it all up. Hoping for even better next year.

I just totaled my numbers. Strong average.

On geese we went 0 per day per hunter. At the club at least.

Didn't kill that many geese. Had shot a few here and there. Did great for the late season.

It was a strange year to hear it told by the southerners on the board. Poor Rick was getting on by the skin of his teeth while Comeaux was living high on the hog in that same parish.

If you look at the logs, http://www.pitblind.com/index.php/forum/dcomeaux-13-14 and http://www.pitblind.com/index.php/forum/rick, you'll see an example of the vagaries of perception. Dave's duck season was actually much tougher than ours, which sucked compared to most recent years, so it appears I'm just more inclined to piss and moan about it, while he's more happy go lucky. One man's boom may be another's bust.

Interesting stuff Rick. Seemed that either Dave or Hudson were posting heavy straps all year. Might be their combination that had me disillusioned.

And shame on you for holding out on us all those great pictures.

Hudson seemed to be posting pics of limits left and right here. Had me plenty jealous.

It was average here I guess but you should see the ducks in my marsh now

well I was -INFORMED BY THE RESADENT LDWF AGENT- on the la sportmans mag site we in la shoot 2x more ducks than any other state and its all due to the great work by DU and ldwf.

Its cute that the LDWF agent takes credit for ducks that come through an entire flyway.

I don't know who oneal's talking about, but we're blessed with a head waterfowl biologist, Larry Reynolds, with the balls to get on these boards and present the best available stats and facts to a bunch of guys who'd rather bitch about how they think things ought to be than pay attention to what he's trying to explain to them. I'd have told them to fuck off and enjoy their circle jerk long ago, but he's incredibly committed making their decision making process and the information its based on public.

I usually saw all that after going out and killing a limit of birds due to the fact that several years ago I stopped doing "the same thing" over and over and over.

Wasn't till about late December when things really slowed down. But luckily dragging my scull boat out saved me and I was able to get on quite a few more ducks.

Gene you're right. Getting stuck in rut in times like this, doesn't help. I had to get out and get creative. Hunting new spots. Some spots I didn't even know existed. Some paid some off, some didn't. But it definitely added an element of fun to this season that I wasn't expecting

While my numbers weren't anything to brag about this year, it was all my fault. I didn't get out near enough. My first hunt of the season wasn't until nearly the end of November.
I've said it before, many of the guys sitting around bitching about lack of numbers usually aren't getting birds because they are sitting around bitching about lack of numbers.
This was my second season in a row of half the days I had been hunting previously. Probably only 20-25 hunts this season, including the WFF hunts. Gonna have to get more motivated next season.

I said it in the beginning, we didn't show up for the ducks. And I was serious when I said I considered not even buying a license, that was a fun trip.

I put in more effort than I have had to in many many years, to shoot way less than half as many birds. While the numbers were down, I feel good about how I did. Many in this area would liked to have done as well. I do hope that I never break ice this many times again.
