America today.

I still don't see how you can have partial nationality, unless you have one parent from one country and another from a different country and hold dual citizenship. There you're 50/50 in a different way. No 1/32s

How about partial ethnic? Take African Americans. They claim ethnic and national status.

While "African American" is a phrase that annoys me, it makes more sense. Hispanic American, Asian American... At least there is a race tied to it. But being "part Irish" does not make sense. If you don't hold citizenship in Ireland you aren't Irish at all. It's not a race, it's a nationality.
Caucasian or white is your race.

its your heritage

I'm gonna start putting down Texas American or confederate American then.

To be considered heritage to me would have to be like having an Irish immigrant grandfather who had the family doing all kinds of Irish stuff during your upbringing. But that's a matter of my opinion.
My grandfathers grandfather was an off the boat german immigrant, said he hardly spoke english. My great grandma was born a German in Germany. But I don't celebrate German holidays, or claim to be German or part German. I was born in America to American parents. I am
not a German American.

American is a generic term for ppl from the USA. Anyone from the tip of Argentina to Canada is an American.
United Statesian is just too many syllables for our lazy lips to say.

I would say to be a X-American you need to be first generation. Meaning your parents needed to be born elsewhere immigrated here and then had you. Then you could be an X-American. Your kids would just be Americans.

There is nothing wrong with continuing your blood lines traditions but just because you have red hair, your grand parents were born in Ireland, and they taught you some drinking songs doesn't make you an Irish American.

My last name is from Ireland, but like most others, I am a mix of many countries. I'm an American and I like to drink beer, therefore I celebrate St. Patricks Day!

No, no, no. I'm saying it's a stupid term to denote race, not nationality, and was an appeasement to political correctness which makes no sense. Folks didn't like "black", "negro", or "colored", so settled on "African American" as a race. Well, if it's a race, then that means it's the same everywhere. So if a black guy is English, that means he's an "African American"? The very notion is just silly. He's black. Just like a white guy is a white guy. Tying a country to "race" is dumber than dumb.

Oh. Then, "yellow".

That would simplify things greatly, and would ultimately make just as much sense, and be grounded in just the same amount of logic:

You get to choose:
White
Black
Yellow
Brown

Pretty much covers it.
