Yep, we've pretty much got it wrapped up. Only a couple more things to do, and the most important..honeymoon is booked.

Met my wife in May, proposed in July, married in September. I think if I would have had to undergo 8 months of wedding planning, we never would have got married.

I must say I have been very lucky. I don't think I've really been involved with anything except the food. I didn't have to go to anything, but I chose to go to the food and venue. She's done an amazing job, gotta give her that.

Same here- I think my involvement was limited to helping pick out the menu. Of which I got to eat damn near nothing, being shuffled around for dances, pictures, meet-and-greets, and all that crap. If there's any little bit of advice I'd give, it's to try and be as selfish (as a couple) as possible on your wedding day. It's tough to do (and we failed miserably), but try and remember that those people are supposed to be there for you guys, not the other way around. Congrats, and enjoy!

Thanks

We've heard that advice a lot, and its going to be hard. 2/3 of the people coming are family members from out of state.

Oh, it won't happen. It never happens. But it won't hurt to try! I would have loved nothing more than to sit down and eat a great meal and have a few drinks with some of my close friends, but it just doesn't happen.

Our worked out great in a funny way. We started the whole deal a couple hours early than "normal couples" since there were so many families with kids. By 10 they were all fading hard so we did a "mock departure" I guess and acted like we were leaving but went to the guest house while most left, knocked out a quicky. Changed and went back inside and proceeded to get shitcanned with all our friends and close family. Great time.

weddings are the biggest effing waste of money. We should propose. Make it legal with the court. Then go on a honeymoon. Tops

That's the truth all that money for a 4 hour party! I could do better with a $60 budget I'm my garage.

My wife was just as cheap as me. I think our whole wedding was under $3500. That included open bar for 4 hours and buffet dinner for 100. We got pre-construction pricing on the venue (married and reception in the same place), since they weren't sure it was going to be finished- saved almost $10,000. Well, didn't save it, because if it had been $13,000, we simply wouldn't have gotten married there. Good food, too- crab cakes, stuffed rockfish, prime rib, the standard baked chicken, crab-stuffed mushrooms, veggies, three different kinds of potatoes, and desserts (nobody likes wedding cake, anyway). Place even has a bar attached, so folks didn't have to wait for the open bar to drink, and could hang out before the wedding, and just walk through a hallway. There were more than a few folks sitting there for the ceremony with drinks in their hand. It was great.

The condition was that if it wasn't finished being built/ready to open, we lost all our money and had no place to get married. We didn't know 100% until about 6 days before that it was a go, but we really didn't care. Our back-up plan was to get married at the house and have a cookout. Either way.
