I only know one person that has ever been bit, but him and his wife were team champion rattle snake catchers. I don't think he counts since he played with the damn things on purpose. Last time I talked to him (>20 years ago) he was teaching his kid to catch snakes by catching non-poisonous water snakes. The kid got bit and couldn't get it to let go and he was laughing about his kid jumping and flailing around with a snake clamped on to him. His wife retired them from the competition circuit when she got them DQ'ed. If you get bit, you are DQ'ed. That was their last competition.

We have someone get bit at work every couple years patrolling line. It's rare though as many of us that do it daily. Just lucky I guess. Prob more like they just don't strike as bad as we think. I'm sure people walk right by them often in rocks and weeds

I bought my first real snake boots about a month ago, always have had it in the back of my mind but a couple close calls in the last few months convinced me $200 might not be a bad investment.

If I was working in an area with them on a daily basis I would be wearing snake boots or those gators that are meant to stop a snake bite.
