Just broke ice for the first time yesterday scouting ducks.

I haven't been taking pics lately but we have been pounding on the geese. Gotten a few bands over the week. Not sure if I'll get flamed for it or not, but we brought a guy hunting a couple weeks ago and his kid loves it. Hes only 8 though, need to be 12 to hunt. He brought a .410 yesterday and we let him kill cripples, which he only got to shoot one. I went and rounded them all up and saw the banded one and brought it to him and said go show your dad your first bird ever. He didnt even see that it was banded and once dad saw it and explained it all to him...you better believe we heard it all day on how he is the only one who gets bands in or group:grin:

did you have to bust out your cackler call to get that rooster to commit to the spread?

Used a common merganser call. It's like a rock to a crack head when it comes to Roosters in goose spreads.

@ Flightstopper- I used to live and hunt on Lake Conroe which is not too far from you and would hammer the woodies on the north end of the lake. I got transfered down to the South Texas and was pleasantly surprised at the waterfowling down south.

I'd say you got the better end of the deal on that one. I never made it out to Conroe but always wanted to.

After a bust of a hunt last night, got a late start this morning. Just pulling up to our goose field, my friend and I found out the geese beat us there! So we backed up real slow and did a belly crawl through his cherry orchard, sneak up behind a brush pile, stand up and start shootin. Dropped three like sacks of taters, picked them up, sat in the blinds and didn't have anything else come in:( oh well felt good to shoot some geese, havnt shot many the last few years. Gonna hit them more the next few weeks.Image
