Well, I'm not gonna call it cursed, yet.

Some one was in the spot we wanted, so we hit the other end of the little lake, but wind proved unfavorable and we whiffed the couple of marginal chances we had. Then they shot while we worked birds, etc., then it went quiet. So it was a goose egg, but we really only put in about two hours.

He started the morning looking hopeful.

The little fella was listing hard after an hour or so in the water, though.

I need to see about maybe patching his leak.

He's just showing off his side view to the passing birds.

I took the little fella out to the same SIWA spot again today, but got the good side of the lake this time. Same buddy and I shot four sprig, a teal and a mallard. Could have shot many more sprig and had lots of teal sneak in and out before we could shoot. Some geese came in, too, but not open. Also a few mallards around, but couldn't get them to come in the way we wanted them to and I missed a couple "not-as-close-as-I'd-like-them-to-be" shots at them. So all in all a good day to work lots of birds and even get shoot a few.

Red stayed straight proud. I put him in about and inch of water with his keel stuck in the mud, right next to a resident widgeon decoy who looks to have had the top of his head chewed off by a dog. They had their little freaky side show going on along the bank nearest to our blind, so pretty much front row.

I know some are around but for whatever reason they're not in this spot, at least not today. Had one flock come in last Friday and busted a bunch out of there when I walked in that day.

He's on his way home via USPS Express. I stuck a sprig tail in the log book for a page marker. For some reason my dog really likes the Big Cock Country hat. Was always taking it out of the box but never long enough to chew it up. Also, Ollys muffin has some green mold starting to grow....
