And if I had a bird to choose, it would be teal. Remind me of little crack heads with feathers.

Thanks.
I am going after teal this fall in my layout boat. We have good numbers here in wet years.

I bought a stealth last year after the freeze. I plan to dust it off with some blue wings.

This one's taken a much better turn than it's title and initial whining suggested. Good on ya.

Does whacker=shooter?

My duck sickness has gotten more intense over the last five years since I got the yellow dog. Used to be I could go all summer without uttering the word "duck". Not anymore.

Yup, or at least "shooter" in the "whacker" sense.

Ill accept that. I love shooting my gun. Much more than enjoying the scenery while not killing ducks.

There's nothing wrong with knowing where you are in the stages.
Eric's still happy just shooting, getting a few ducks, and we all were like that once.
Call it stage two. Nothing wrong with it at all.

This almost never gets discussed, the stages a (duck) hunter goes through.
one: Just wants to shoot
two: just wants to kill something
three: just wants to limit out
four: just wants to get trophies

I very rarely don't limit out Betty. I'm at stage 3.5

That's when the ducks pour in on me and I'm done by 8 am.
Yep

I have had goose hunts that were exactly like that. Just a hail Mary and hoping for the best turns into me shooting my limit of 8 honkers. I do try to at least shoot 3 geese though.

Yup, so many days that started slow have turn to great hunts cause I had no agenda and just stuck around to watch the morning unfold. Maybe one of the lessons here is the morning flight might happen at 11am.

That's the awesome thing about living up here, if I can't get on the x I will pick a field nearby and set up and shoot the stragglers that wander by throughout the day.

I can't wait to finally be up there with a decent snow spread at my disposal. Don't even really care if we kill snows, but you know damn well every duck that flies over is going to give us a look!

Sometimes even an advanced aged hunter likes to shoot his gun, kill something, limit out, and not care about trophies. Thats what pond jumps are all about.

Yep. Seems to apply to everything. There's been many times when I went out deer hunting and thought to myself "I've got so much shit to do, I hope I can just sit here, drink coffee, and BS on the phone for a bit, then go home and get to work". Those are always the times when I end up with two of those fuckers down and a couple hours of work I made for myself. Same with ducking or goosing- sometimes I just want a nap and to relax, and that's when they're coming from everywhere all morning.

That interpretation is about as dumb as it gets, both of you. If I bring one shell, then I can say I limited out for the day?

If you are looking for a higher plain of metaphyscial esorteric thought, please visit TomKat's Haiku for duck hunters thread and impress me with your witty prose. This hijacked thread is about the demise of the canadaian bacon site, I will remind you.

I love it when you talk all condesending-like to me. It was a joke with a South Park reference but neither of you can pull the tampons out of your butthurt asses to acknowledge it. Won't happen again boss.

AB, this is a subtlety lost on a good number of people. There is a huge difference between laughing with someone and laughing at someone. Nothing gets under my skin quite like a a bully out to make them self feel better at the expense of someone they think is beneath them.

Word travels fast.

I'm still not sure how the ship is sinking, the mods and admins are getting along working toward a common goal for once, sponsorship hasn't changed much out of the norm, membership isn't declining much, if at all. The only thing wrong is an administrative issue that we chose to address in the open forum for two reasons:

1) to let the members know we (the mod/admin staff) are doing all we can on our end.

2) to try to draw some attention from vs.

To attack the moderation staff for the spam problem is weak. Those guys are doing all they can. As you well know Olly, there is only so much we can do on our end without the proper board permissions. If you really have a problem with how vs runs dhc, then email them directly and let them know you arent happy with the problem. Either be part of the sollution, or let it go. Anything else is a bunch of chest thumping and posturing with no results.

Were not car salesmen here. Its not a one or the other kind of thing. People will be active members where they feel most comfortable. For some its wff, others its dhc. The mod/admin staff has been around dhc for a long time, and arent ready to turn their backs on it yet.

I've said it before and will say it again. I like both sites. I do miss the good old days before the split, which is part of the reason I'm on here, to keep up with you assholes I call friends. Some people don't and that's their prerogative. If they don't like dhc I don't know why they continually come on bashing it. Do your own thing as a site and we will do ours, which will end in success for both of us.

Just texted my Chinese and Russian counterparts and asked them to stop spamming the site. Mkay?
The Japs refused to answer so you're on your own.

Is it ok for us to talk shit about you guys over here or are y'all gonna ban me for something I said on Facebook?

The japs won't stop, they're on my side

Better than 200-300 BBs lighting your spread up?

Not far from me there's usually a few thousand BB's all season, I've never targeted them once, given the option of being in my layout blind in a marsh or getting the snot best out of me on the saltwater I'll chose the dry comfy layout blind. Also, I really love eating mallards, black ducks and teal.
For me calling the birds and working them into the spread is 99% of the fun. But to be fair having divers dump into upwind side of the spread right in your face is damn exciting.
Well said. Mallards make you feel like you got some swagger. If I'm lucky someone I know will invite me to hunt divers. It's something I've not done yet and the clock's ticking.
It would be nice to try and live some of the diver stories I've read. It sounds like a lot of fun too if you don't drown in a tiny little boat miles and miles from shore.

Those guys are the REAL duck hunters...there, I said it finally.

AB, if you make it out west, I'll take you diver hunting, from water and from land. Best time is December and January but, the very best for BBs is January. If I have time, we could probably go seaduck hunting up north too. Have you ever shot a Harlie?
